, a state-of-the-art multicultural, community-based medical and dental clinic is seeking someone who enjoys working with the public, has strong communication skills, and a desire to help others while serving the community to join their team as a Principal Office Specialist. This position will provide support to eye care providers by assisting with patient care tasks.

Location and hours: This position is on-site and will be located at the NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center, 2220 Plymouth Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN 55411. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

This position is internally classified as an Office Specialist, Principal.

In this position, you will: Perform assigned clinical tasks under the direction of an optometrist, such as administer eye drops, perform basic patient care activities including placing patients in room, performing vision screening, stereopsis, and color vision testing.  Obtain patient information and medical history including chief complaint, current medications, and allergies. Perform lensometry, measure pupillary distance, take retinal photos, perform visual field testing, and other procedures under the supervision of an optometrist. Provide patient education from standardized teaching plans. Perform clerical duties involved in registering and scheduling patients, transcribing orders, and maintaining telephone communication. Clean equipment and rooms. Procure and stock equipment and supplies. Need to have: One of the following: Three or more years of office clerical experience. 30 months or more of office clerical experience and completion of the Office Specialist Pathway Training program . A combination of office clerical experience and post high school education, totaling 3 years or more (3 semester credits = 1 month). Nice to have: Experience: Performing vision screening, stereopsis, and/or color vision testing. Working with EPIC and/or electronic health records (EHR) to input, retrieve, and modify data and information where accuracy is essential . Working in a medical/dental office setting performing front desk duties and handling confidential information.
Ability to: Handle multiple problems and assignments simultaneously, and to work independently with minimal direction. Proofread numbers, correspondence, and other written materials for spelling, grammar, and format accuracy.   Recognize and respect cultural differences and provide culturally appropriate services.   Work with the general public and staff members with tact and discretion. Candidates with fluency in another language in addition to English are encouraged to apply. Bilingual candidates who pass a language assessment may qualify for additional bilingual pay and duties.
