The Mark O. Hatfield School of Government, housed within the College of Urban and Public Affairs, incorporates the Department of Public Administration and Department of Politics and Global Affairs. Other research and service units within the School include the the Mark O. Hatfield Cybersecurity & Cyber Defense Policy Center, The Center for Public Service, the National Policy Consensus Center, the Center for Women's Leadership, and the Center for Turkish Studies.
The Department of Public Administration offers three masters programs (Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Nonprofit Leadership (MNL), Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA) ), three graduate certificate programs (Graduate Certificate in Public and Nonprofit Management, Graduate Certificate in Energy Policy and Management, and Graduate Certificate in Collaborative Governance). MPA and EMPA programs are accredited by the Network of American Schools of Public Administration and Affairs (NASPAA), and our programs are ranked #10 in urban policy, #13 in local government, and #57 in overall best public affairs programs by the US news and World Report :
Position Summary The purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to the Public Administration Department (PA) and the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government within the College of Urban and Public Affairs.
Duties include, but are not limited to: performing general receptionist duties, providing administrative/financial/academic support, managing events, handling website and social media updates, providing information and assistance to various stakeholders, and overseeing the work of student employees.
This position will work closely with the PA Department Chair, PA Department Manager, Director of the Hatfield School, staff, full-time faculty, adjuncts, students and the broader community. This position has a key function in the day-to-day operations of the Public Administration Department and the Hatfield School of Government.
This position works 20 hours a week for the Public Administration Department and 20 hours a week for The Hatfield School of Government.
Minimum Qualifications from Classification Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology; OR Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology AND one year of general clerical experience.
Note:
College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position Proficient in general office software and technology programs including word processing, mail merge, spreadsheets, database maintenance, scheduling, completing fillable forms, website updates Excellent interpersonal and professional communication skills (both written and verbal). Ability to delegate tasks to student workers Ability to manage competing priorities and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines Strong organizational skills with attention to detail Ability to be self-motivated, proactive and demonstrate ability to take initiatives; Ability to work interdependently in a team environment and effectively with diverse people Strong customer service skills and experience Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining administrative tracking system Successful completion of background check. Experience with basic bookkeeping and accounting practices Minimal experience with desktop publishing and web content management Preferred Qualifications BA/BS degree 1+ year experience in working in a higher education setting 1+ year experience working at Portland State University Experience working in PSU systems including Banner, Drupal, D2L, DataMaster/Cognos, OnBase or similar multi-user database Advanced MS Office skills. Working knowledge of Google suite for professional purposes (Gmail, Calendar, Sites, Drive, Groups), Emma, Adobe Acrobat professional Experience supporting an academic unit Experience supervising and directing the work of student employees Key Cultural Competencies Creates an environment that acknowledges, encourages and celebrates differences. Work Days/Hours Monday-Friday, 40 hrs/week

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement The starting hourly salary rate for this position will be between $16.19 and $18.12 per hour. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
