Summary:
The MetOcean Division of Tetra Tech has an opening for a highly motivated individual to join our team as an Oceanographer.We are seeking a self-starting individual with a positive attitude experienced in large scale physical oceanographic studies both in the US and abroad. The optimal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years of experience in planning, mobilizing, and overseeing large scale physical oceanographic studies in a commercial environment. Direct experience with designing, assembling deploying and recovering deep-water moorings and/or platform-based systems is critical. The position includes working on projects onshore and offshore in the US and internationally, and out of town travel for periods of 2 days to 4 weeks on short notice will be required.
Your Role:
Serve as an oceanographer with the following responsibilities:
Design, implement and manage physical metocean studies.
Assist with preparing proposals and budgets for metocean studies.
Assemble, integrate, and test oceanographic sensors and data communication systems for use in water depths ranging from the nearshore to full ocean depth.
Serve as the field lead on metocean studies managing a team of technicians in the deployment and recovery of oceanographic equipment.
Preparation of field reports and project reports.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A BS in physical oceanography, ocean engineering, or related field.
Four years of experience in the large-scale oceanographic studies including managing field teams and operations of oceanographic equipment.
Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.
Eligibility for a passport and TWIC card.
English fluency and report writing.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of oceanic and atmospheric physics.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
Self-motivated and able to work independently and within a team environment.
Must be able to adjust readily to change, make decisions independently.
Experience in the installation and operation of ADCPs, meteorological systems, wave buoys, deployment/recovery systems, water quality sensors and navigation packages.
Experience in troubleshooting electronics including serial data communication and networking.
Strong communication skills and experience in client interactions
Experience in managing deck operations during the deployment and recovery of large met-ocean measurement equipment.
Demonstrated experience in conducting operations in accordance with industry standards for health and safety.
Ability to travel and perform field work (approx. 50% or more of travel required).
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment weighing up to 50lbs.
Time series data QA/QC and processing desired.
Knowledge and experience of data telemetry systems

AutoCAD experience preferred.
A Pre-employment drug screen in compliance with state regulations is required.
Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
