Department: Special Education Title: Part-Time Occupational Therapist, Registered / Licensed FLSA Status: Exempt, paid on an hourly basis Reports to: Director of Special Education
Salary: Hourly
Purpose: Provide direct occupational therapy services and consultation to a range of clients
from toddlers to adults in a sensory-based therapy clinic, as well as in public/private schools and
home settings.
Essential Functions:
• Conduct evaluations, create treatment plans, and provide direct therapy or consultation
as indicated
• Maintain clinical records to document progress
• Train caregivers and school staff in occupational therapy activities to promote functional
skills as appropriate
• Construct, modify, and maintain adaptive equipment for positioning, ADL, vocational, and
classroom use
• Consult with school teams in the development and implementation of IEP goals for
referred students
• Attend and actively participate in interdisciplinary team meetings
• Participate in training and/or continuing education related to the job for enhancement of
professional skills and knowledge
• Access resources and support to implement client-specific behavioral programs as
needed
Additional Responsibilities:
• Submit required documentation in accordance with departmental policies (e.g., contract
costs, time sheets, travel expense forms)
• Participate in and contribute to professional development opportunities and staff
meetings; maintain a personal portfolio of professional development activities.
• May collaborate with CES or community professionals on research projects, in-service
training, and similar activities
• Participate in annual performance evaluations
• Supervise occupational therapy assistant as needed; contribute to their performance
evaluation process as requested
• Participate in training occupational therapy students from affiliating colleges
• Assume any additional responsibilities as directed by Director of Special Education or
designee
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor or Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited College or
University
• Massachusetts Licensed Occupational Therapist
• Certified by the National Board of Occupational Therapy
JOB DESCRIPTION
• Experience in pediatrics and developmental disabilities highly preferred
• Strong knowledge base related to sensory processing disorders, evaluation, and
treatment
Preferred Qualifications:
• Training in the following therapeutic programs: the Wilbarger Approach for Sensory
Defensiveness, Zones of Regulation, Powerful You, Astronaut Training Program,
Therapeutic Listening
Physical Demands:
• Requires the physical ability to provide safety-spotting in therapy gym, and assist in
lifting and transitioning students as needed
• Regularly lift 20 lbs. and up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to multi-task and respond to demanding job duties with a positive mindset.
• Must be able to communicate and converse effectively in real time with youth and adults
from multiple backgrounds and cultures.
• Must be able to enter, exit, and move through and between classrooms and/or program
locations throughout the day. At some locations this may mean moving between floors.
• Must maintain situational awareness, including awareness of student activity and
communication in fast-paced settings.
• Requires the ability to effectively handle job stress in the performance of duties.
• Ability to support teaching and learning through Google Classroom, Meet, and/or Zoom
• Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle/transportation
Working Conditions:
• Ability to handle interruptions and maintain productivity
• Ability to work with diverse personalities and populations
• Skilled in working both independently and collaboratively
• Requires the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in response to
emotionally-laden, challenging, and/or offensive student behaviors, which may include
verbal abuse or physical aggression. Staff will have the opportunity to be trained in
nonviolent intervention and de-escalation techniques
• Requires adaptability and flexibility, and may include reassignment based on
departmental needs
• Employees expected to follow CES Workplace Safety Standards and required COVID-19
prevention and mitigation protocols
Terms of Employment:
• Minimum of 15 hours/week based on the school
year calendar (August/September - June)
• Late afternoon/early evening hours required
