Job Description SummaryAs a member of this world class team, the Controls Engineer will execute the protection and control aspects of Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) projects. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, testing, start-up and commissioning of the protection and control aspects of fixed series capacitors (FSC), static VAR compensation (SVC) and synchronous condenser (SC) solutions within GE's FACTS portfolio.Job DescriptionJob DescriptionRoles and ResponsibilitiesDevelop custom protection and control solutions, including specifications, layouts, schematics,logic diagrams, wiring, grounding, and other required custom control hardware, for custom FACTSsolutionsCompose protection and control equipment specifications, issue material purchase request forms,and evaluate vendor quotations forFACTS equipment including protection and control systemsBe the contact liaison for technical issues for the customer and project managerDevelop and execute start-up, testing and commissioning plansCoordinate with sourcing and project team members on technical matters to meet projectspecifications, cost control and schedule objectivesInterface with internal and external team members such as principal engineers, control designers,electrical designers, project managers, engineering leaders and supportorganizationsDevelopment of the controls scope for proposals, including writing and/or reviewing technicalspecifications, estimating design man-hours and materials, supporting sourcing for vendorquotations, directing designers and draftsmen on drawing requirements, and the development ofclarifications and exceptions as well as technical responsesParticipate incost reduction programs that vary in scope and may include low cost vendorselection, design improvements, process improvements,automation, and new productintroductionParticipate inRCA's (root cause analysis) and execute corrective actionsSupport project quality procedures and initiatives including aspects of ISO9001business management systemRequired QualificationsBachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in ElectricalEngineering from an accredited university or collegeEligibility RequirementsAbility and willingness to travel up to 20% as required, which may include remote locations andinternational travel, and be willing to comply with all relevant company traveland tax policiesDesired CharacteristicsExperience in automation controller programming, to include PLCs, MkVIe, digital relays, andembedded real-time controllers such as MATLAB & RTDSExperience inmicroprocessor control hardware, firmware, architectureKnowledge of and experience using IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards and codes, andability to engineer design packages when no clear customer specification is providedSuperior communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work in a team environmentDemonstrated creativity and ability to lead a team and be accountable for team results in order todeliver a high quality product on time and under budgetAbility to develop and implement standards and structured programsExcellent personal computer skills, including proficiency with Excel and Word, AutoCAD, andMicrostation
