Duties and Responsibilities : Manages the continuous operation and maintenance of the BSU network infrastructure. Maintains and coordinates network and network security support to the campus community of Bowie State University. Performs day-to-day operations, ensuring availability, performance, and effective support for all network, applications, and systems communication. Maintains network stability, traffic monitoring, analysis, and configuration to ensure high availability, improved performance, and IT Network Infrastructure security. Maintenance and support of routers, switches, firewalls, secure wireless networks, site-to-site security, and client VPN. Provide knowledge, expertise, and support for projects as it pertains to communications, networking, and security. Develop and maintain operational documents, standards, guidelines, and policies as required. Maintain, update, upgrade, and support the network infrastructure as required. Supervise junior/student network support staff. Assist in the preparation and production of technical specifications for the network Provide support with scripts and tests for quality assurance and support. Establishes and maintains a comprehensive network management control system that adheres to best practices and standards. Liaisons with the Information Systems and Network Manager consults and coordinates team effort, and participates in all aspects of systems and network operations. Coordinates effort, monitors, resolves, and report network security events, and respond to accountability and audit requirements to the Information Systems Security Officer. Initiates, reviews, and provides recommendations on projects and upgrades for consideration. Serves as a consultant for other applications and future technologies and serves as a liaison on committees, task forces, evaluation groups, and negotiating for associated projects. Communicates and interacts effectively with users, staff, faculty, management, executive level, and external vendors. Coordinates planning, support, and maintenance of application infrastructure with information technology teams to assure business continuity and availability of services to the campus community. Provide support, research, resolve, and document application technical issues. Other duties as assigned. Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or other related field preferred. Valid CCNA or CCNP certifications preferred. Experience: Experience supporting LAN/WAN and Telecommunications networks. Experience with Cisco UCS/ACI infrastructure, UCS Manager, Cisco Command Line Interface, and Wireshark. Experience troubleshooting, monitoring, implementing, and maintaining IPv4 networks. Experience documenting and diagramming networks with tools like Visio. Enthusiastic with the ability to work well on a team and a self-starter who can work independently. Experience with Cisco Unified Wireless Networking to include 802.11b/g/n/ac/ax, LWAPP, CAPWAP, Client, WLCs, Prime Infrastructure, Cisco Client, and Cisco ISE. Knowledge of Cisco IOS configuration and troubleshooting across multiple platforms. IT infrastructure technologies, including network issues with wireless, firewall, Virtual machines, storage, and servers on-premise and in cloud environments. Experience with network infrastructure, testing, and security such as switches, firewalls, routers, wireless access points, Internet circuits, server rooms, network closets, and Disaster Recovery environments. Document the design, operation, and troubleshooting of network platforms and procedures in tools like Confluence. Have and can maintain a good driving record. Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers, acts with customers in mind, ownership of issues to resolution. Works hard with enthusiasm and energy with little supervision, self-motivating and driven for results, uses time effectively and efficiently, follows directions given, provides necessary information to those who need it, and gives priority to administrative functions. 5 years of experience in network administration and Cisco certification preferred. Experience in Campus Networks and the Education sector is a plus. Knowledge Skills and Abilities : Extensive network infrastructure knowledge, skills, and expertise. Information Technology knowledge and skills to plan, manage, and coordinate support requirements and elements pertaining to systems, networks, applications, security, communication, etc. Cisco routing and switching, and network architecture expertise- CCNA, CCNP Experience in the installation and support of wireless networks and access points Experience in designing networks and sub-networks over various physical and virtual environments. Experience in installation and management of routers, switches, and other network technologies. Solid experience in network security and IT infrastructure. Knowledge of Palo Alto, Cisco Call Manager, VMWARE. Establish effective working relationships for team and external with university departments and provide quality customer service to handle issues, priorities, and situations that occur. Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise. Research, evaluate, and recommend future initiatives and technologies for Bowie State University. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain and manage a highly available, robust, and secure network infrastructure. Knowledge of Best Practices policies and procedures and the ability to coordinate team efforts to create and implement standard policies and procedures for Information Technology at Bowie State University.
