OVERVIEW: The Music Instructor monitors and assesses the implementation of music programs and services; and supports the development and implementation of new music programs. Represents the Music Department at various community relation activities and events and performs related work as assigned. The Music Instructor will work closely with other staff to plan and implement music program ideas/goals. Attends occasional training and submits monthly reports; tracks and submits daily attendance and is responsible for the maintenance and inventory of the music equipment on site. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee music programs, events, and classes at the clubhouse. Conceptualize, design, and teach classes that have high youth appeal. Provide instruction in person at the clubhouse for students 6-18 by evaluating their interests, aptitudes, and individual characteristics. Responsible for maintaining musical equipment and resolving technical problems. Collaborate with other staff to identify themes and key objectives for each project cycle. Support recruitment of students to participate in performances, events, and recitals. Support the management and training of volunteers and partners. Execute a final recital/performance in a showcase format. Accompany students on field trips to musical performances where available. Demonstrate artistic methods and procedures to pupils. Observe and evaluate pupils' work to encourage students on progress and to make suggestions for improvement. Students in the music program will be limited to a small number and staff will be on site to eliminate any inappropriate behavior. Play a variety of instruments; maintain inventory records of instruments; notify appropriate personnel of instrument repair needs. Maintain excellent records of members' attendance and progress. Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and inventory of the music program. Helps create and organize media content to promote the music program. Must be available to help with events such as galas, fundraisers, recitals and/or any event that requires entertainment from members in the program. Maintain effective relationships with members and parents. Attend and contribute to team meetings that advance organizational goals. Assume other duties as assigned.  EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED. Bachelor's degree or currently enrolled with anticipated graduation date  Combined experience and/or formal training equivalent to a minimum of three years where: There is experience working with youth and knowledge of youth development. Formal training, and/or experience teaching youth musical instruments. Possess a valid driver's license and pass a motor vehicle driving record check. Pass a criminal background check. Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Pass (negative result) a TB test. Preferred Qualifications: Currently enrolled in a course of higher education or have received a degree from an accredited post-secondary educational institution. CPR and First Aid Certifications Prior experience working in a Boys & Girls Club. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY and SKILLS: Knowledge of techniques, processes, and procedures required to teach various musical instruments to members in small group settings. Understands the principles of learning related to instrumental music instruction. Skilled in creative planning, implementing quality youth programs, organizational /and project management, and working toward developing a high-quality music program. Ability to deal effectively with members, including disciplinary issues. Demonstrated ability in relationship building and working with young people and parents. Ability to demonstrate a professional manner in all interactions, able to facilitate a diverse group of youth effectively, and to organize time well and focus on completing assigned tasks with minimal supervision. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. WORKING CONDITIONS and DRIVING Travel between Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles sites and schools and various field trip sites as well as in the community is required. Must meet the insurance standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles.  Hours are based on the school calendar – evening hours are required during the school year; hours will vary during summer and school breaks; occasional weekend hours are required. Additionally, interactions with youth and adults may involve moderate to high noise levels during activities. Physical exertion may be necessary to move and transport supplies and equipment.
