Job Description Summary / TWC Summary: The Operations Manager in the Print Shop manages pre-press and offset Operators in the Printing Department. The Operations Manager also provides price estimates on printing orders; and receives and responds to customer questions, inquiries, and printing needs.
Essential Duties Summary: Manages, plans, prioritizes, and coordinates the overall operations and activities of the pre-press and offset operators. Supervises and/or recommends various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, work assignment and reassignment, performance evaluation, problem resolution, compensation, and scheduling time off. Provides training and counseling to assigned staff. Ensures that staff adheres to policies and procedures. Assists in communicating with University personnel throughout the entire process regarding pricing, job specifications and job status. Determines job specifications such as paper type, amount and size of typesetting, number of ink colors, number of pages, final trim size, bindery requirements, quantity, and printing method. Prepares estimates and provides information to customers. Oversees daily inspection of work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with quality and quantity standards and departmental standards and policies. Assists with research of various jobs print jobs and prepares requisitions for training purposes for print shop staff. Provides on-going graphic design training as needed. Assists in developing, outsourcing guidelines and coordinates the procurement outsourced printing according to state guidelines. Authorizes projects for outsourcing and communicates with selected venders. Assists in problem solving and record keeping. Monitors paper stock levels and buys paper products to maintain required stock levels. Performs other duties as assigned. % FTE: 1.0
Hiring Range: $48,273.00 - $60,341.00

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: Federal, State, Local, and County laws. Policies, procedures, and practices. Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications. Skill in: Effective customer service. Problem-solving and decision-making. Multitasking and time management. Strong organizational. Interpersonal. Both verbal and written communication. Ability to: Prepare detailed reports. Work independently. Communicate effectively with the ability to articulate a vision and strategy in a way that inspires and motivates a team and focuses their energy on achieving business goals. Detail-oriented with the ability to oversee projects from origin through execution. Work Experience: Five (5) years of related experience. Requires working knowledge of specialized practices, equipment, and procedures. Working/Environmental Conditions: Prolonged standing and/or walking. Handling light weight objects. Using or carrying equipment.
