Overview: R esponsible for administering daily medication to patients Job Responsibilities: Assist with Self Administration of simple prescribed medications Follow the "six rights" of medication assistance (Right; resident, drug, dosage, time, route, record) each and every time assistance with medication is provided. Monitor patients (vital signs, temperature, respiration, etc.) and report on their condition Provide companionship and basic emotional or psychological support Assist with medications according to MAR and record appropriately, making sure to uphold resident's privacy. Document and file paperwork correctly and efficiently in a timely manner, case manage issues that require follow up. Maintain a neat, clean, organized medication cart, medication and filing cabinets, and medication room. Audit your medication cart daily Ensure that medication is ordered in a timely fashion and changes, hold, stop, increase, decrease, and new orders documented, and instructions from doctors and pharmacists are followed correctly and documented as such. Establish and maintain an open-door policy and a high level of ongoing communication with residents and their families. Ensure that residents, their families, responsible parties and/or doctors are contacted when a change in service is needed. If requested, explain to the resident what medication is being given and why. Respect the resident's right to refuse medication assistance. Promote and protect resident's rights to safe, prompt and confidential treatment. Observe the resident for any adverse reaction to a medication, report, and document it to your supervisor and/or the doctor immediately. Control the spread of infection by following proper procedure. Effectively communicate information pertaining to residents with appropriate staff members and the medication staff, according to facilities policies and procedures. Observe residents closely, identifying changing needs and conditions at first indication, and reports immediately to nursing or leadership as appropriate Other duties as assigned Qualifications: Minimum of 6 months medication tech experience

Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
