Yeo & Yeo Affiliated Medical Billing maintains a highly trained staff with experience in all areas of physician billing. Several Certified Professional Coders on staff assist in choosing proper diagnostic codes and procedure codes. Our billing specialists receive ongoing training specific to medical specialty. Position Summary The Medical Biller will perform a wide variety of duties in the medical billing office. The candidate will use a system of coding to categorize patients and their ailments for the purpose of billing, record keeping, archiving and cataloging. Medical Billers are also responsible for acting as a communication link between clients and patients. The candidate will possess excellent communication and customer service skills while striving to maintain an efficient and productive office.
Key Objectives Review patient bills for accuracy and completeness and obtain any missing informationPrepare, review, and transmit claims using billing software, including electronic and paper claim processing.Knowledge of insurance guidelines, including HMO/PPO, Medicare, and state MedicaidFollow up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframeCheck each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discountCall insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessaryIdentify and bill secondary or tertiary insurancesAll accounts are to be reviewed for insurance or patient follow-upResearch and appeal denied claims.Answer all patient or insurance telephone inquiries pertaining to assigned accounts.Set up patient payment plans and work collection accountsUpdate billing software with rate changes.Updates cash spreadsheet, runs collection reports.Ensure clients are assisted in a courteous and expedient mannerMeet and exceed goals set forth through the annual performance evaluation processGrowing use and knowledge of applicable company technology, paperless systems, tools and processesQualifications Associates Degree, Business Administration or equivalent; or the combination of education and work experience that enables the performance of all aspects of the position is requiredCertification in Medical Billing and CodingKnowledge of HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer requirements and systems.Use of computer systems, software, 10 key calculatorAbility to code conditions and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPTEffective communication abilities for phone contacts with insurance payers to resolve issues.Customer service skills for interacting with patients regarding medical claims and payments, including communicating with patients and family members of diverse ages and backgrounds.Able to work in a team environment.Problem-solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies, denials, appeals, collections.Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures.Knowledge of medical terminology likely to be encountered in medical claims.Preferred Abilities Communicate effectively in highly visible and/or adversarial situationsActively pursue learning and development opportunitiesParticipate actively in all on-the-job and formal learning and development opportunities to understand role and responsibilitiesAbility to accept and adjust to changing priorities and circumstances Leadership Reports to direct supervisorTake charge and be action-oriented and persist until the task or job is completedLearn and understand how position is critical to the success of the organization and be willing to accept responsibility and be accountable for own actionsTechnology Experience with Microsoft OfficeMedical Billing workflow softwareUnderstand and stay current on new technology Benefits & Perks!
