Full job description Medical Assistant Are you passionate about providing high-quality reproductive health and family planning services, including abortion care, to patients from within Colorado and across the United States? Founded in 1973, Boulder Valley Health Center (BVHC) is a small outpatient community clinic that has been a leader in providing reproductive and sexual health services, abortion, and education to all people, including those who face barriers to accessing high-quality and equitable healthcare.
We are seeking an experienced Medical Assistant who embraces a spirit of continual improvement, maintains a high level of clinical quality, and possesses a relentless drive toward excellence to join our team. Our MAs are an important member of our clinical care team and essential to delivering high-quality services to our patients.
This hourly, non-exempt 1.0 FTE (37-40 hours) position reports to the MA Supervisor. We offer an hourly rate of $22.00 - 24.00 based on relevant experience and bilingual skill set. Why work for BVHC? We also offer a competitive annual time off policy of 9 holidays, 6 sick days, and 15 PTO days. Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
Assist with performing screening and treatments by gathering information related to health maintenance, collecting specimens, performing tests, and documenting patient care. Assist in procedures pertaining to reproductive health visits and abortions up to 16 weeks gestational age. Assist clinicians in patient education and care in the areas of abortion, gynecology, and sexual health. Stock exam rooms, ensure room set-up and cleaning are handling efficiently and following BVHC protocols. Assist with proper routine cleaning and storage of medical equipment. Perform on-site lab tests, including urine analysis, vital signs, pregnancy tests, and venipuncture. Assist with tasks and patient/provider follow-up, collaborating with other clinical care team members as needed. Promote positive communication with patients, clinicians, and peers. Assisting with laboratory tasks, including inventory, monthly controls, lab reports, and processing specimens. Review lab tracking reports regularly to ensure results are received promptly, errors are minimized, process improvement is continual, and lab quality is maintained and aligns with CLIA and other standards. Maintain quality results by following organizationally defined clinical standards. Maintain a safe work environment by: Applying the clinic's safety policies. Supporting the safety program by actively looking for opportunities to improve safety practices. Promptly reporting any safety concerns. Knowledgeable of and compliant with laws and regulations governing the area of responsibility Cooperate fully with Clinic Leadership to ensure excellent patient care, smooth scheduling, appropriate and consistent communication between functional areas, and collect, improve, and provide data and reports for operational and compliance needs. Assist with administrative tasks, including scheduling, prior authorizations, faxes, state statistics, and reporting results to the state and patients. Other duties as assigned. Job Qualifications :
Required Ability to work any required clinic shifts Monday through Friday, 7:45 am – 5:15 pm, and Saturday, 8:00 am – 1:15 pm. Because we provide sexual and reproductive health care for every person and our patients span many identities of sex and gender, we expect our team to have fluency, familiarity, or an open desire to learn and use the language of inclusive, engaging, and relevant sexual health. Can critically think and problem-solve for patients' best interests. Excels in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Experience working in a healthcare setting (reproductive and sexual health a plus!). Experience working with folks from marginalized communities. EHR experience (NextGen a plus). Bilingual in English and Spanish. Work Environment Requirements and Physical Activities: Ability to hear adequately in person and by phone, in personal and group settings. Ability to reach for, move, and lift 20 pounds and use your arms and hands to handle or move objects and to perform a variety of tasks that involve standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, twisting, climbing stairs, or using an elevator with reasonable accommodation.
