GENERAL SUMMARY This Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the nursing director or designee.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Primary responsibilities are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform. This list of responsibilities is intended to be representative of the duties performed within this classification. The omission of a function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed if such duties relate to the position.
•Prepare patients for examination and treatment.
•Interview patients, measure vital signs, record health histories and chief complaints.
•Draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
•Provide other medical treatments ordered by providers such as audiograms, vision checks, administration of oral vaccines, and EKGs.
•Stock immunization inventory, maintain temperature logs, order immunizations, create and provide monthly reports to the Department of Health.
•Process medication refills, faxes, and charts.
•Compile information regarding patient care, such as the number of patients served, appointment cancellations, and no shows.
•Clean and stock all areas of medical clinic including cleaning, sterilizing, and packaging of medical instruments.
•Maintain clinic equipment such as refrigerator temperatures, machine calibration, and autoclave flushing.
•Write and submit information for monthly newsletter.
•Perform medical records duties such as copying and processing Release of Information forms, retrieving and filing charts, processing PCCs, maintaining medical records.
•Provide staff administrative support and back-up including answering phones, taking messages, conveying information from providers to patients, processing mail, greeting and checking-in patients, filing, and appointment scheduling.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience
•Graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants and two years' experience as a Medical Assistant.
•Medical Assistant license with the State of Washington.
•Must have current CPR Certification and TB Testing
•Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable under the Tribe's policy.
SUPERVISION This position does not supervise.
COMPETENCIES Possesses the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the primary responsibilities of the position.
Knowledge of:
•Native American customs, traditions, and culture,
•HIPAA and PHI laws, rules, and regulations related security and confidentially of data.
•Medical instruments, equipment, and procedures.
•Administrative procedures and practices.
•Proper use and disposal techniques for sharps.
•Proper handling and disposal techniques for infectious waste and biohazards.
Skill in:
•Preparing, interpreting, and maintaining medical records.
Ability to:
•Exercise tact and judgment in all contacts.
•Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
•Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
•Understand and follow written policies, procedures, and guidelines.
•Interact professionally with physicians, nurses, patients, and insurance providers.
•Act calmly and rationally in an emergency.
