Mechanical Service Writer Job Description Position Summary A Mechanical Service Writer accurately uses mechanical estimating software for calculating repair costs and estimating reports for Swift Recon.
Position Duties and Responsibilities The writer is responsible for maintaining an open line of communication with team members through all phases of the repair process. Required to stay up to date on vehicle status throughout the entire mechanical process and ensure the vehicle maintains quoted estimated time of arrival (ETA). Determines cost-effectiveness of replacement parts. Prepare supporting documentation for estimates, including taking photographs, completing forms, and other tasks required by clients, insurance, and fleet companies. Writes estimates using proper repair procedures in accordance with insurance, fleet, and other partners and Swift Recon guidelines. Creates and sends invoices in a timely manner for completed cars in specific customer formats. Comply with company safety rules, guidelines, and standards. Perform other duties as required to successfully meet the needs and goals of the estimating department and Swift Recon. Educational Requirements High school diploma or 6 months to 1-year related experience and/or training.

Must maintain an open line of communication with all departments. Strong written and oral communication skills that allow you to communicate effectively with your team. Read and understand instructions, written estimates, and work orders. Multitasking and adapts easily to fast-paced environment. Maintain professional appearance. Physical Requirements / Working Conditions The position is based in a normal shop environment. Daily activity as well as repetitive tasks involving hand and arm motion and lifting objects over 50 pounds. Must be able to push/pull parts, carts, and cars with assistance. Working environment consists of: Exposure to fumes, chemicals, dust, along with elevated levels of noise. Must have manual dexterity to operate equipment. Subject to climate changes both inside and outside the facility. Must have visual acuity to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of the work assigned.
