Description The Department of Defense (DoD) is offering a post-graduate fellowship at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command - Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRDC-MRIID) located in Frederick, Maryland. What will I be doing? As an ORISE participant, you will join a community of scientists to generate high-throughput phenotypic screening assays by integrating different throughput automation instrumentation for therapeutic treatment and infection. Followed by the application of immunofluorescence-based method for imaging, imaging analysis and data analysis to identify potential hit therapeutics. You would learn how to use high-throughput automation and imaging instruments and will gain a knowledge of the cellular basis of viral or bacterial infection and the response of the therapeutics presence of infection. The overall goal is to develop tools and methods for large-scale, high-throughput phenotypic screening using Echo and Biomek and the Opera Phenix for automated imaging. During your ORISE appointment, you will support TD's mission to successfully develop different screening assays and identify small molecule therapeutics. Why should I apply? Developing skills in high-throughput image and data analysis and therapeutic discovery. Where will I be located? Frederick, Maryland What is the anticipated start date? The USAMRIID is ready to make appointments immediately. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. This appointment is a twelve-month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant. What are the benefits? About ORISE This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment. Qualifications The qualified candidate is a U.S. citizen with a master's degree in biochemistry, biology, cellular or molecular biology, infectious diseases and zoonoses, microbiology or closely related discipline. Degree should be received within 48 months of application. U.S. citizenship is required Minimum GPA of 3.80 Highly qualified candidates should be familiar with the basic concepts of drug discovery, have experience conducting some research in the area of target or drug discovery, and be knowledgeable in the basic principles of chemistry and chemical libraries, and have some familiarity with automation instruments.
