Position Summary At STERIS, the Manufacturing Engineer supports the Steris Chemical operation that includes multiple nearby locations (3 sites). The Manufacturing Engineer evaluates, selects, and applies Manufacturing Engineering techniques to develop economical and efficient methods to produce piece parts and/or assemblies. In this role you will provide necessary input to develop manufacturing specifications for various operations/work stations, as well as, develop effective standard procedures and processes to assure that the product complies with specifications of quality, safety and delivery. The Manufacturing Engineer recommends and implements design changes to improve quality, safety, delivery and cost, manages projects associated with recommended changes, and designs and executes process validation plans in accordance with corporate quality policies.

What You Will Do • Review and process product documentation pertaining to engineering drawings including initial release and subsequent revisions. 
• Review products for the purpose of increase quality, delivery, safety and reducing manufacturing cost through value analysis, material substitution, process changes, etc. Recommend and execute change plans as required. 
• Develop clear and concise manufacturing specifications/instructions to maintain quality and to assure smooth workflow through the factory. 
• Provide floor support during the manufacturing cycle, verify standards, and update manufacturing specifications.
• Assist with review and implementation of factory test equipment. 
• Develop workmanship standards to accommodate manufacturing/inspection and assure conformance to specifications. 
• Develop manufacturing costs. 
• Assure manufacturing facilities, tooling and test equipment are available to meet production requirements. 
• Support maintenance and assist with machine troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
• Perform manufacturing studies leading to recommendations for new and improved methods, procedures and equipment utilization. 
• Review and evaluate plant capacity and capabilities; recommend action to optimize burden absorption.
• Utilize Lean tools to improve process flow, efficiency, and determine Root Cause with Corrective Actions.

 
What Will Help You Be Successful • Minimum five to ten years' experience in engineering in a manufacturing environment. Experience working with mechanical systems or designs is ideal.
• Mechanical Engineering Degree required.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Good Manufacturing Practices relating to regulated businesses. i.e., automotive, pharmaceutical, medical device. 
• Demonstrated technical knowledge related to area of responsibility. 
• Excellent organizational, analytical, communication, and decision making skills. 
• Effective and efficient project management capability. 
• Effective interpersonal to interact with cross-functional team members.
