Performs a variety of administrative, confidential, nuanced and/or sensitive work as a staff assistant, performing a variety of administrative functions including assisting the Discipline Coordinator with work performed by that division; serves as trainer for the Chicago Office on matters directed by the manager of the training division; handles special projects as directed by the Director and Human Resource Officer . Duties and Responsibilities: Works with the Discipline Coordinator to assist in the handling of discipline matters, including but not limited to investigating and gathering information for proposed discipline cases, drafting correspondence regarding proposed and final discipline; advising departments regarding the handling of discipline matters, testifying in hearings regarding unemployment claims, as directed by the Director or Discipline Coordinator.  Assists with monitoring evaluations and performance improvement plans. Coordinates with manager of the training division and the Human Resource Officer to assist in the preparation of training materials, as well as conducting training programs such as New Employee Orientation, as directed. Handles special projects as directed by the Director and/or Human Resources Officer. Performs other related duties as required or assigned. Specific Skills: Requires thorough knowledge of administrative practices and methods. Requires extensive knowledge of agency operations. Requires ability to express complex ideas clearly both orally and in written form. Requires ability to develop and maintain satisfactory working relationships with legislators, judicial and executive branch officials, other agency representatives and the general public. Requires willingness to travel and possession of a valid Illinois driver's license as required by individual positions within the class. Education and Work Experience:
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college, with coursework in public or business administration AND three years of responsible professional experience in a public or private organization.  Additional requirements may need to be met for applicants to be deemed qualified for individual positions within the class; this may include specific licenses, certification or credentials as related to the position's duties and responsibilities as defined by the Department of Personnel .
