Observes mechanical devices in operation to locate causes of trouble. Fabricate, disassemble and assemble production equipment to gain access to and remove defective parts Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments. Repairs or replaces defective parts. Lubricates and cleans parts. Initiates purchase order for parts and machines and creates and documents hours worked on applicable work orders. Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment and troubleshoot/repair processing, filling and packaging production equipment. Weld, perform sheet metal work and employ basic shop floor skills (lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools). Install, move, and relocate machinery/equipment according to blueprints and other drawings. Read and interpret blueprints and equipment manuals. Performs other duties as assigned by the Lead or Supervisor. Basic Qualifications Minimum of three to five years' experience in an industrial maintenance role. Knowledge of troubleshooting bearings, belts, sheaves, sprockets, chains, and gear reducers and proper alignment of these drive devices Experience in inspection of all included above and the ability to make recommendations on the proper level of replacement and inspection Ability to make recommendations on spare parts, lock-out tag-out, guarding, and the level of operator involvement for proper machine integrity Desired Qualifications Previous experience in the food industry and knowledge of GMP's and SQF audits would be valuable Competencies Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and power industrial truck. The employee is frequently exposed to cold, wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
