Compensation: $43,618.00 - $53,645.00 Annually ($20.97 per hour - $25.79 per hour); FLSA Status: Non-Exempt. *Starting hourly wage will be $20.97 per hour.

POSITION FUNCTION SUMMARY: Under general supervision performs general plumbing including maintaining the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, and fittings and plumbing fixtures for all facilities; collaborates with others to develop maintenance plumbing plans to meet goals established for AHA housing properties; manages work orders, formulate inventory levels, and performs plumbing maintenance; maintains and provides for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems in all facilities.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS This is a technical classification performing a wide variety of skilled work in the maintenance and repair of plumbing systems and fixtures in AHA properties. Incumbents serve to relieve the manager of performing technical detail work and are expected to function with very little direct oversight. Successful performance of the work requires the frequent use of discretion and independent judgment, knowledge of departmental and AHA activities, and extensive contact with AHA staff and residents. This class is distinguished from other technical classes by the performance of skilled plumbing crafts work.

Inspects and repairs fixtures, steam lines, backflow prevention devices and Determines routing of pipe, sequence of operation and location of plumbing fixtures, accessories, and equipment. Computes kind, size, and amount of materials to use for assigned projects and Installs, connects, tests, and maintains urinals, toilets, wash basins, water heaters, janitor sinks, drinking fountains, sprinkler systems, filter systems, and other fixtures. Troubleshoots and repairs major plumbing breakdowns such as clogged sewers, drains, and Installs and repairs vents and venting needed for water-heating Coordinates maintenance work with other departments and Completes and documents Work Orders as Assists Maintenance on other duties such as make readies and Work Maintains accurate records of maintenance and repair Effectively troubleshoots a variety of plumbing system Repairs and/or replaces damaged plumbing and plumbing Assembles and installs air, gas, water, and related Works independently in the absence of Performs related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Principles, practices, methods, equipment, materials, and tools used in plumbing maintenance and repair of Authority systems and fixtures, including plumbing codes. Safe application, operation, and maintenance of tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade. Applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulatory codes, ordinances, and procedures relevant to assigned area of responsibility. Standard office practices and procedures, including the use of standard office equipment, basic record-keeping, and arithmetic. Safe work practices, including safe driving rules and practices. English usage, ability to read, write, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation. Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and Authority staff.. Education and Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Equivalent to graduation from the twelfth (12th) grade, successful completion of a valid plumbing apprenticeship, and four (4) years of journey-level plumbing experience.
Licenses and Certifications: Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid New Mexico driver's license upon appointment. Must have and maintain an Albuquerque Housing Authority insurable driving record. Possession and maintenance of a valid New Mexico Journeyman Plumbing (JP) Possession and maintenance of a valid New Mexico Journeyman Gasfitter (JG) license Preferred: Bi-lingual (English/Spanish)
