Maintenance Operator

Job summary
Maintenance Operators perform a variety of tasks related to maintenance and repair of roadways.This includes setting up work zones, cutting brush, cleaning ditches, repairing roadways, and plowing snow.They also perform preventive maintenance and operate equipment for emergency roadway operations.

Responsibilities
• Operate light, medium and heavy-duty equipment safely to perform maintenance and construction tasks.• Identify workplace safety hazards and make suggestions for improvement.• Prepare and operate equipment for snow and ice removal and other emergency operations.• Perform maintenance repair, replacement, and preventive maintenance.• Participate as a working member of the crew to complete projects and accomplish objectives.
Requirements
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.• Ability to operate and maintain equipment used in highway maintenance/construction.• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.• Ability to read and follow instructions and communicate effectively.• Skill in the operation and maintenance of handheld and power tools.• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.• Ability to work during inclement weather, accidents, and emergencies.• Valid CDL with appropriate endorsements.• Experience performing heavy manual labor and equipment operation.• Experience in emergency operations such as snow removal and accident clean-up.
