Job Summary The Maintenance Generalist performs general work from basic repairs, grounds care, communication with other repair personnel, and oversees facilities enhancements for the purpose of maintaining facilities for students, staff, and public in a safe, operating condition. This position is hourly, Mondays through Fridays, 8:30-5:00, with the occasional evening, weekend or early-morning work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responds to administrative work requests for completing work orders (and/or projects) in a timely, efficient, and productive manner Assists skilled workers as a helper in various trades (ex: carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective functioning of the work unit Inspects facilities, systems, and their components for the purpose of identifying necessary repairs Maintains tools and/or equipment in good working order Safely operates basic equipment using defined methods Performs minor repairs as assigned in carpentry, plumbing, painting, or electrical Provides support and facilities setup/breakdown for school events on campus. Responds to emergency facility or custodial situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site Physical requirements include the ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds, push/pull greater than 50 pounds, climb ladders, moderate bending, excessive squatting and frequent twisting, kneeling, and reaching Exposure to chemicals, noise levels above 85dB, dust, fumes, odors, humidity, as well as slippery and uneven surfaces should be expected Performs other duties as assigned Qualification Requirements: A High School diploma or equivalent Ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to perform all of the duties of the position Experience with general building maintenance regarding carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical Experience with basic business technology, such as Microsoft, Google applications or similar Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices Understands and follows oral and written instructions Ability to organize, prioritize and follow-through on assignments Estimates time, materials and equipment required for jobs assigned Performs multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions Work with immediate supervision, providing information and/or advising others Use resources from other work units to perform the job's functions Keeps up-to-date work records Have knowledge of green building practices Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work with a variety of people in a professional, collegial, and courteous manner Ability to be discreet and to maintain confidentiality Must pass criminal background investigation Be available for occasional evening, weekend or early-morning work Experience in a non-profit school (preferred) Commitment to Diversity FCS is committed to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive educational community and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or a person's status as a qualified candidate with a disability in administration of its educational program, admission policies, financial aid program, staff hiring, and other school-administered programs.
