Description: Nine-month, non-tenure-track, one-year appointment beginning August 1, 2024. Salary and fringe benefits are competitive and commensurate with rank and experience. The Knoxville campus of the University of Tennessee is seeking candidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University. Teach review courses in musicology for incoming graduate students. Teach musicology courses for music majors, with a significant writing component, especially required courses in western art music (particularly 18th through 20th centuries) at the sophomore level. Selected service duties, to include participation in College committees, or as needed in support of the Academic Division and Musicology Area. Other teaching duties, primarily at the undergraduate level, are based on the successful candidate's areas of specialty. University of Tennessee's musicology unit is an integrated program in historical musicology and ethnomusicology; teaching approaches that blend these methodologies and that encourage interdisciplinary thinking are welcome.

Qualifications: Required:
1. Doctorate in historical musicology or ethnomusicology required by time of appointment
2. Proven success in teaching at the college/university level with ability to foster students' critical thinking and academic writing
3. Facility in teaching western art music of various style periods
Preferred:
1. Ability to teach a sophomore-level ethnomusicology class on music and society
2. Expertise to teach special topics courses in areas that complement those of the existing faculty
3. Teaching areas that invite interdisciplinary student participation
4. Teaching abilities in a non-canonical or non-western music performance area
