Percent time: 11%-100% - Lecturers
1-40 hours - Teacher Special Program Instructors (TSP's). TSP positions are part time and paid on an hourly basis depending on the need.
Anticipated start: 7/1/2023 for AY ******** Appointments
8/1/2023 for fall 2023 appointments
1/1/2024 for spring 2024 appointments

Position description
The Blum Center for Developing Economies at the University of California, Berkeley is generating an applicant pool of qualified temporary instructors and invites applications to teach courses in the area of Development Engineering. New classes in Dev Eng are planned based upon student interest and candidate expertise. Candidates under consideration will be contacted by the Blum Center. The previous pool will close March 31, 2023. Those interested in remaining in the pool must reapply.

General Duties: Lecturers are responsible for the course syllabus: curriculum development and delivery, student mentoring, student assessment through relevant projects, problem sets, tests and/or class attendance and participation, and grades. Project-based courses will require working with potential sponsors.
We are also seeking applicants for hourly positions , should an opening arise. The TSP instructor's principal responsibilities will include designing and overseeing capstone projects in the Master of Development Engineering (MDevEng) program at the Blum Center.

Required by the start of the appointment , applicants must hold either a master's degree or equivalent international degree, or at least 7 years of industry or nonprofit organization experience. Preferred qualifications
Ph.D. or equivalent international degree or graduate professional degree is preferred in a discipline associated with development engineering (e.g ., development technologies, development economics and business models, impact analysis, design for development). Teaching experience in two or more of the topic areas listed below is preferred. Also desirable are a strong track record in developing and implementing new and experimental methods of delivering education and hands-on learning, and experience working with students from a range of disciplines.
