Kwik Trip, Inc. has an exciting opportunity in our Marketing Department for a Lead Nutritional Label & Packaging Specialist . In this role you will lead the food and beverage labeling process by supplying nutrition and ingredient information for production operations and retail locations, ensuring all regulatory requirements are fulfilled, according to legal requirements and corporate guidelines. You will work cross functionally, manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining a high level of detail.
Additionally, you will promote Kwik Trip's role as a leader of health in the convenience industry by maintaining expert credentialing in the field of nutrition. The role functions as an industry leader through its relationships and work with advisory boards for professional associations, manages partnerships and participates in speaking engagements as well as in print and social media opportunities.
Primary responsibilities include:
Utilize an electronic database to complete an accurate nutritional panel, ingredient statement and allergen statement for use on product labels available to the public Research food/beverage regulations to develop mandatory label format, which includes feedback on product name according to standard of identity, weight statement, ingredient statement, allergen declaration, nutritional fact panel, and determine possible exemptions Work collaboratively with vendors, productions teams, food research and development and quality assurance to obtain and maintain current label approvals for existing and new products Review label files for accuracy and regulation compliance on proposed labels; review and advise marketing on any advised changes to content based on regulatory guidelines Approve or reject labels, communicating on necessary issues and working collaboratively to resolve errors Anticipate and respond to regulatory changes and trends, lead response to mandatory changes to meet compliance expectations and educate those impacted on impending regulatory changes Provide nutrition analysis to food research and development to assist with the product development process, provide recommendations and identify opportunities for product improvement Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Food Science or a related field of study. Minimum three years of food industry labeling experience. Minimum 3 years of food industry experience with FDA and USDA label regulations and documentation requirements. Basic knowledge of FSMA, HACCP, GMP's. Knowledge of food product development, production processes, food safety and allergens. Ability to research regulatory issues and provide recommendations for resolution to cross-functional teams. Working knowledge of packaging and final merchandizing for retail food sales. Current knowledge of nutritional trends and hot topics. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to communicate complex technical issues in simple terms. Acute attention to detail, highly organized and accuracy in proofreading. Ability to work professionally amongst various departments with a positive attitude and understanding of all parties involved in regulatory affairs. Ability to speak in public. Knowledge of social media trends, ethics, and health promotion, measuring social impact and branding. Knowledge or ability to learn and work in Esha Genesis (Preferred), OnBase and Esko Quickstart Workflow, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint). Must have initiative, the ability to work independently and exercise good judgment. Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Prior experience with nutritional databases such as Genesis software is preferred and a plus. Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday, daytime hours.
