Michigan Law seeks an experienced human resources partner to guide staff human resources. This role will work in collaboration with University Human Resources and teams within the Law School to enhance the Law School's inclusive and positive work environment, enhance organizational effectiveness, guide desired outcomes, ensure the communication and implementation of HR procedures, and introduce improvements to HR operations by incorporating best practices.

The Law School's HR Director will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and will focus on staff training and development and community building; will advise and consult with supervisors on development and classification of new positions and performance appraisals and will coach supervisors in areas of staff development and feedback; and will counsel and assist supervisors and employees in resolution of problems and grievances. This role is responsible for all administrative tasks associated with staff hiring and onboarding. 

- Coordinate staff training, development, and community building programs
- Identify process improvement opportunities and develop procedures and programs to facilitate change
- Design, develop, implement, and oversee programs to promote and ensure that diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and objectives for the Michigan Law community are implemented and achieved
- Consult with Law School leadership to establish regular and temporary staff salaries, including for new hires, transfers, promotions, and merit increases
- Facilitate staff recruitment and selection process for both new and vacant positions, from posting to onboarding; facilitate exit interviews and staff offboarding
- Ensure compliance with University policies, processes, and requirements, including maintenance of staff personnel files and monitoring, review, and approval of leaves, appointments, terminations, RIFs, and other staff matters
- Provide advice and leadership in the implementation of effective staff performance planning and appraisal systems
- Coach and advise management regarding conflict resolution, performance management, and employee relations; assist in the investigation and resolution of staff complaints; and ensure appropriate procedures are followed in disciplinary matters
- Represent the Law School on personnel matters, including in grievance hearings
- Manage Law School staff human resources practices in coordination with the University's Shared Services Center
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in human resources or business
- At least five years of progressively more responsible human resources experience with the ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of human resources best practices, including recruitment, compensation, and employee relations

- SHRM/PHR certification
- Advanced degree in industrial relations or JD 
- Higher education human resources experience
