Large-Caliber Ammunition Engineer
Nammo Defense Systems Inc., a defense contractor, manufactures and supports energetic material solutions such as aircraft emergency escape systems, actuation devices, rocket motors, warheads, medium & large caliber ammunition, mortar ammunition, shoulder-fired weapon systems, and composite solutions including carbon fiber tubes and composite aero-structures.Position Summary:The LCA (Large Caliber Ammunition) engineering position requires a project engineer with experience and/or the aptitude to grow in the aerospace/defense industry in developing & utilizing skills in the areas of design, analysis, test, manufacturing, and production. The LCA project engineer provides support creating and presenting technical information to internal and external customers. The LCA project engineer is responsible for executing day-to-day activities of the program and uses technical discipline and rigorous standards to ensure that all technical aspects of their programs are executed correctly. This includes creating and/or evaluating detailed drawings, analyses, reports, presentations, test plans and reports, statements or work, failure analyses and fault trees, program plans, and internal research & development plans with guidance from other project and senior engineers and program management as applicable. The LCA project engineer is responsible for the product technical data package and ensures that the product engineering meets customer requirements. The LCA project engineer is also required to own, manage and track technical risks associated with product development, qualification, and manufacturing. The LCA project engineer has a very dynamic position with daily activities that are always changing. This requires that the LCA project engineer be able to manage their time well to ensure that efforts are done on time while meeting requirements and expectations.The LCA project engineer is responsible for supporting programs at the NDS Mesa facility and reports to the LCA Chief Engineer while leading and supporting a cross-functional program team. This position requires working with energetic materials including rocket propellant, pyrotechnics, and explosives.Primary Responsibilities:- Ensure that day-to-day program activities meet program and customer goals and adhere to technical standards- Evaluate top-level customer requirements and be able to derive system and sub-system level requirements- Evaluate and interpret technical data and its application to product development and requirement verification- Develop, write, and review technical plans, reports, and presentations- Manage product requirements, specifications, verification, validation, risks, and qualification- Communicate with internal and external customers- Conduct assembly, sub-assembly and component analysis (structural, ballistic, & thermal) to support design- Take technical direction from the LCA Engineering Supervisor- Support bid & proposal preparation including: scope of work, technical volume, schedules & budgets- Support creation of detailed internal research and development ( IRAD ) plans and support continuous improvement projects- Support manufacturing and quality to ensure products meet technical requirements- Interface with cross functional program team members to resolve technical issues- Participate in Change Review Board meetings by preparing & presenting TDP changes- Participate in Phase Gate Review meets for development programs- Support failure investigations applying technical rigor & discipline to logically identify root cause- Support cross functional team activities ensuring production technical issue are resolved Required Experience & Skills:
- BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar technical field- Seeking 2-10 years of industry experience, Aerospace/Defense industry experience preferred- Ability to integrate into and support cross-functional NDS Mesa Team activities- Ability to plan and execute with discipline despite uncertainties- Knowledge of closed form, explicit, and finite element analysis- Knowledge of solid modeling & detail drawing creation- Strong written and oral communication skills- Consistent work ethic with bias for team collaboration- Desire to grow and learn Note : Due to US Export Control laws and regulations; applicants selected for employment must show proof of a U.S. Person status before employment may begin.
