Job Summary: The Sodji Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Carbone Cancer Center is seeking to hire a Laboratory Manager. We are in the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research (WIMR) building next to the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. The successful applicant will be a highly motivated individual with a passion for cancer immunology in the context of radiation. You will contribute to translational research investigating the cooperative interaction between radiation and immunotherapy including adoptive cell therapies both in vitro and in vivo using preclinical murine tumor models.
Your responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to, general lab maintenance, analyzing data for publication, laboratory record keeping, and training new personnel. Additional responsibilities include planning and performing the in vivo testing of combined modality treatment approaches in murine tumor models, in vitro and ex vivo immunologic assays, and molecular biology experiments. Laboratory techniques will involve cell culture, handling of mice, flow cytometry, functional immune assays (eg. antibody- dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity, IFN production), immunohistochemistry, quantitative RT-PCR, cloning, and transfection/infection of cultured mammalian cells.
Responsibilities: Directs the technical activities, operations, planning, and policy development of a lab, including coordinating the activities of multiple, complex projects and staff to ensure quality control and compliance with regulations. 10% Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised unit operational policies and procedures in alignment with strategic initiatives and objectives 5% Serves as the unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing information, making recommendations to leadership, and representing the interests of the unit 10% Directs and supervises the day-to-day laboratory operations, quality control programs, and/or staff of a work unit to ensure compliance with organization and regulatory agency standards 15% Monitors program budgets and expenditures 40% Develops and facilitates trainings regarding scientific experimentation, technical procedures, and equipment operations to various audiences 5% Assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding. 10% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities and assists with publications. 5% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of employee(s) within the Sodji Lab. Qualifications: Required Qualifications:
- The successful candidate will have a strong background in immunology, molecular biology, and in vivo studies in murine models.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills as well as collegiality with laboratory staff and trainees and values that embrace a lab culture of safety and scientific innovation are expected.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with lab management.
- At least 1 year of laboratory (non-classroom) experience in cell culture and in vivo mouse work.
- Molecular biology and flow cytometry experience.
Work Type: Full or Part Time: 70% - 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
Appointment Type, Duration: Ongoing/Renewable

Salary: Minimum $58,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
