Department Description
College Opportunity Programs (COP) works in partnership with administrators, teachers, and students in specified elementary, middle and high schools in regional K-12 school districts. The goal of COP is to increase the number of students from historically low college enrollment communities who prepare for post-secondary preparation with the emphasis on college/university preparation.
Job Summary
Under general supervision, provide participants from culturally diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds with academic skills and enrichment in a 6-week Summer Program (June 24th thru August 2nd); develop academic curriculum for classroom instruction in the subject area of Math specifically for high school students; provide tutorial assistance; conduct pre- and post-testing; provide written evaluation of student's programs; maintain academic records; and participate in Upward Bound's extracurricular activities. May be required to provide instruction in an elective course. Position Information

PHYSICAL DEMANDS Physical Demands: May climb flights of stairs in residence halls for tutoring sessions. Lifting Requirements: Lift supplies weighing up to 30 lbs. WORK ENVIRONMENT Mandatory attendance at various evening trainings beginning May thru June. Work occasional evenings/nights. Employee shall participate in required preventative medical and medical monitoring programs which will include TB screening. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education/Experience: Experience developing academic curricula and interactive classroom instruction specifically for high school students. Experience teaching high school students in the areas of Math. A valid CA multi-subject or single subject teaching credential or Master's degree at the start of employment or currently enrolled in a credential program or Master's program. Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA): Skills to evaluate students' needs and progress. Skills to establish and maintain supportive relationships with multi- ethnic participants from culturally diverse disadvantaged backgrounds. Skills to establish, develop, and maintain supportive working relationships with all staff. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Education/Experience: Knowledge of and/or experience with TRIO programs.
