Description Variant Collaborative is a boutique design studio based in Chicago, specializing in hospitality, retail and multi-unit residential interiors, as well as branding & graphic design.
We are currently seeking a Junior or Intermediate Interior Designer with a minimum of 3-5 years of professional hospitality design experience. Requirements Creates initial concept packages with a strong design story, to guide the design process through project completion while checking in with Studio Managers/Team Leads/Principal Designers. Conducts programming efforts through space planning studies to arrive at final approved plan that meet the goals of clients. Develops interior spaces while considering Architecture, Interior Design and Landscape as a holistic experience including specification of furniture, lighting, artwork and finishes/materials. Leads day-to-day project coordination efforts with the ability to prioritize deadlines, manage communication and coordination with clients and consultants. Communicates conceptual design ideas through 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings. Work with consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives. Participates in the construction administration of projects - including review of submittals and finish samples as well as value engineering efforts to maintain design intent. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or related field from a CIDA accredited school. 2+ years of related commercial design experience. Hospitality experience preferred. Thorough knowledge of building codes, permit process and ADA standards. Thorough knowledge of coordinating and integrating MEP systems into a project. Proficient in technical drawing & modeling software programs (please include list of software you have experience with and level of proficiency) Proficient in Microsoft Office software (please include list of software you have experience with and level of proficiency) Proficient in 2D and 3D creative/design software (please include list of software you have experience with and level of proficiency). Revit skills are required. CAD, Enscape, Bluebeam and Sketchup are preferred. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite required (InDesign, Acrobat and Photoshop, primarily) required. Knowledge of (focused on commercial grade) furniture, finishes, materials, color selections, and specifications Detailed understanding of FF&E design and deliverables Experience in all project phases from concept to construction. (RFI & Submittal process experience preferred) Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, working with staff and clients Confidence and experience in communicating with key stakeholders: owners, consultants, user groups, etc. Experience writing specs preferred. NCIDQ Certification preferred but not required, depending on experience.
