The Sr. IT Project Manager will consult with University and UW-Madison Division of Information Technology (DoIT) leadership in planning for, and defining the scope of and strategy for, major information technology projects. Strong project leadership and coordination across many stakeholder groups including vendor partnerships is essential to ensure the goals of the project are met according to the project timeline, scope, and budget. The UW-Madison Division of Information Technology Portfolio & Project Management Office Sr IT Project Manager is responsible for the management of large, complex and highly visible information technology projects that may span the entire University of Wisconsin System, the UW-Madison campus, and affiliates of the University System. The Sr. Project Manager will consult with University and DoIT leadership in planning for, and defining the scope of and strategy for, major information technology projects. Strong project leadership and coordination across many stakeholder groups including vendor partnerships is essential to ensure the goals of the project are met according to the project timeline, scope, and budget. Managing communications and relationships with key stakeholders, including regular contact with campus leaders, directors, faculty, and staff is critical to success in the role. Candidates need experience in risk management with respect to Identifying, capturing, and managing project risks, issues, decisions, and budget items to ensure project success. Finally, top candidates have demonstrated experience in Team Leadership. Specifically, this means assembling and motivating project teams and ensuring coordination across diverse stakeholder groups, including vendor partnerships. The DoIT PPMO will hire two Sr. IT Project Managers to join our team. Each PM will have different focus area and customer. Role (1) is a Sr. IT Project Manager working with DAPIR. Role (2) is a Sr. IT Project Manager working with DoIT Network Services. Role (1) Context: DAPIR: The Office of Data, Academic Planning, and Institutional Research (DAPIR) in a technical transformation of the UW-Madison's data environment. The DAPIR IT Project Manager will consult with Data, Academic Planning, and Institutional Research (DAPIR) leadership in planning for, and defining the scope of and strategy for, major information technology projects. The preferred candidate will have a history of successful data project implementations, ideally with a focus on cloud architecture, data warehousing, and in-depth data analysis. Strong project leadership, professionalism, and coordination across many diverse stakeholder groups including vendor partnerships will be essential. Project managers will have regular contact with campus leaders, directors, faculty and staff as we collaborate on initiating solutions, planning courses of action, and executing and controlling business and technology projects that affect students, staff and employees campus wide. DAPIR includes Academic Planning, Institutional Research & Decision Support, Data Governance, and Enterprise Data Management. Our responsibilities include coordinating information gathering and dissemination to a variety of audiences for a variety of purposes. One of our goals is to create ways of doing this that are accurate, efficient, and result in information that is useful. Role (2) Context: DoIT Network Services: The preferred candidate will have a successful history of networking and infrastructure project implementations, emphasizing service delivery and road maps. Strong project leadership and coordination are essential, especially in dealing with diverse stakeholder groups and vendor partnerships. Regular engagement with campus leaders and stakeholders is required for collaborative initiatives, planning courses of action, and executing and controlling business and technology projects that impact the entire campus. NS Services Maturity Model: The role involves implementing the NS Services Maturity Model, a process with a new tool aimed at establishing a common understanding of service maturity and identifying opportunities for improvement. Aligned with DoIT's Common Service Management Framework (CSMF), the maturity model assesses services in various categories, helping identify gaps and areas for enhancement. The project aims to elevate the maturity of NS service teams, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and standards.
Responsibilities: Provides advanced technical, analytical, and strategic guidance for information technology (IT) projects. Manages vendor workflow and deliverables for complex, enterprise-wide projects and facilitates project status communication to clients to support IT developments necessary for mission related functions. 25% Serves as a main point of contact for clients in the development and implementation of complex and enterprise-wide projects 40% Provides advanced technical and analytical guidance to project teams. Identifies and estimates tasks and applies established project management, process improvement, and budget and cost analysis methodologies to drive project completion 15% Schedules and facilitates communication for the integration of vendor workflow and tracks and reviews vendor deliverables for complex, enterprise-wide projects 15% Drafts and delivers project status communications and reports 5% Participate in internal and external associations and professional development opportunities relevant to project, strategy, and organization change management Institutional Statement on Diversity: Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison. Education: Preferred Bachelor's Degree
Qualifications: Required Experience managing project teams both remote, in person, and hybrid. Project management experience working with diverse, cross-functional project teams comprised of functional stakeholders implementing large, complex information technology projects. Preferred Experience working in higher education. Experience implementing enterprise cloud data warehousing or similar large scale data projects. Experience working with multiple SDLC models with a history of implementing SDLC improvements. Experience developing reports, communications, and documentation for diverse stakeholders (technical, non-technical, executive, etc.). License/Certification: Preferred PMP - Project Management Professional Certification Required PMI-ACP - Agile Certified Scrum Master or CAPM - Certified Associate In Project Mgmt or equivalent
Work Type: Full Time: 100% The candidate selected for this position may perform a combination of on-site and remote work subject to an approved remote work agreement (RWA) agreement. Remote work requires successful candidates to possess their own high-speed internet and phone to perform the work on a university provided computer. Per University policy, transportation between home and assigned work location is not payable/reimbursable and will be at the expense of the employee.
Appointment Type, Duration: Ongoing/Renewable
Salary: Minimum $112,200 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications Starting salary will be based on experience and qualifications. Well qualified applicants can expect to earn between $115K - $125k, with final salary based on experience and qualifications.
