Job summary
Engaging with researchers and other team members to create and deliver relevant and ethical curation of African American history of Clemson University, Oconee County, and Pickens County for an outdoor Black Heritage Trail (BHT).Duties include gathering and organizing information, developing thematic content for trail signage and tours, and evaluating trail effectiveness through community engagement.
Job seniority: mid-to-senior level
Responsibilities
• Create BHT Narrative: Travel to the three BHT sites to work closely with site co-directors, researchers, and team members to create a cohesive narrative connecting all three sites.• Facilitate BHT Content Development: Lead content development of interpretive products for all three BHT sites, including trail signage, tours, brochures, publications, and public engagement.• Test BHT Interpretation Effectiveness: Monitor interpretation effectiveness on all three BHT sites and solicit feedback from the public.
Requirements
• Education: Bachelor's degree in history, museology, or a related field and related experience.• Preferred Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience working with historical or cultural sites, specializing in thematic and commemorative interpretation. Experience in historical trail designs and African American history and culture.• Preferred Licenses & Certifications: Heritage Interpretation Certification and National Association for Interpretation Certifications.
Key Skills Needed
• Knowledge of African American history and culture• Experience in developing educational content for outdoor trails
