Job Summary: This position develops and executes effective internal communication strategies and tactics that align with the city's mission, vision, values, culture, and strategic priorities. The Internal Communications Supervisor works as a strategic partner with city departments and staff to plan, create, manage, and execute internal communication activities and messages that are clear, consistent, timely, aligned with the city's brand, and foster employee engagement.
The Internal Communication Supervisor reports directly to the Deputy Director of Operations and Administration and supervises the work of communication specialists. This position is responsible for building and executing strategic communications and marketing campaigns to inform employees of various city projects and initiatives while successfully building engagement with the city's brand. As a member of the C&E leadership team, this person is capable of a high degree of cross-functional communication and engagement coordination across the organization.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills: Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field. Five (5)+ years' experience in a communications field. Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job may be considered by the hiring authority. Preferred
Three (3) to five (5) years of supervisory experience. Two (2) to (4) years' experience working in the government sector, particularly in internal communications. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills. Strong project management and organizational skills. Knowledge of internal communication best practices and trends. Experience in crisis communication and issues management. Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Ability and expertise to manage and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously. Familiarity with communication software and tools. Ability to organize and analyze data. Knowledge of the business and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal. Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and learn and experiment with new software and systems. Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between others. Oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and details accurately and clearly. Organizational skills, including the ability to set and meet goals and deadlines, manage appointments, create schedules, coordinate, and facilitate meetings, and make decisions. Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple concurrent and competing tasks and responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining personal effectiveness. Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and stay on task when completing special projects and daily assignments. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and reliable professional judgment, as well as collaboratively with a team to achieve desired results. Ability to maintain a strong work ethic, positive problem-solving attitude, and enthusiasm for the work performed. Ability to self-start and take initiative in completing daily tasks and special projects. Ability to focus on activities that have the greatest impact on meeting work commitments. Ability to establish and maintain partnerships with a variety of internal and external constituencies. Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and ages. Ability to navigate a complex political environment. Essential Functions: Develops and implements an effective internal communication strategy that aligns with the City's mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities. Supports the operational objectives of the city's internal departments. Creates and manage communication plans that include key messages, channels, and tactics to effectively engage employees and internal stakeholders. Writes and edits internal communication materials, including emails, newsletters, intranet content, and other internal communications. Leverages their expertise to curate, support, measure, and report on internal initiatives across the city's multi-channel platforms and make recommendations for improvement. Manages staff who oversee the City's intranet, employee newsletters, and other internal communication channels, ensuring they are up-to-date, user-friendly, and relevant. Collaborates with departments and other internal stakeholders to identify communication needs, complete annual planning, and ensure messages are consistent and aligned. Supports project managers with strategy, structure, and materials for ongoing conversations with their teams to drive conversation vs. pushing messages. Promotes employee recognition and engagement programs to foster a positive and productive work environment. Collaborates with the communication and engagement team to implement communication plans and execute department initiatives. Provides support for executive-level communication and city council communication to include drafting messages or scripts for presentation to employees in written or verbal communication. Ensures internal communication messages are consistent with external communication messages. Ensures staff are kept apprised of emerging internal communication strategies as well as ensure best practices are being implemented and updated on a regular basis. Supports the operational needs of the Communication and Engagement Department by flexing oversight and roles/responsibilities to meet the needs of the city, including creating and/or implementing communications plans and materials; writing, editing, and proofing City communications and marketing materials/messages as needed; contributing to the development of and helping support community events, initiatives, and various programs. Assists in crisis communication plans and protocols, ensuring that employees are informed and prepared in case of an emergency. Supervisory Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with safety procedures. Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Work Environment
Work is primarily performed in an office environment. The City of Greeley has established a formal telework policy that allows eligible positions, in coordination with their Departments' management team, an opportunity to incorporate a component of remote work into their working schedule. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Vision enough to read computer keyboards, reference books and other written documents. Communication skills sufficient to convey information to the public via telephone and in person. Manual dexterity sufficient to accurately input, retrieve and verify work assignments.
