Our client is a leading agency directing the homelessness response system in both the City of Tulsa as well as the County.
The Policy Fellowship position is a temporary position for persons working towards their graduate degree or building upon their post-graduate experience to contribute to developing and engaging community members in education and advocacy efforts. Specifically, this position will help to move the needle forward in legislative priorities and areas to advocate to improve systems impacting affordable housing, homelessness services, and other social and public services that support our mission to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring.
The Policy Fellow will identify gaps and solutions in current homelessness services offered in Tulsa and facilitates community communication for specific policy projects. Furthermore, the fellow will compile research to create materials such as white papers, statistical analysis and infographics, and other communications. Utilizing national best practices, the Policy Fellow will collect and present data to inform and advance policy objectives to advance system-wide efforts.
What you will do...
Develop materials such as blog posts and one-pagers that will be used to educate the public about current needs of affordable housing and homelessness services locally - including the use of national data to highlight areas of strengths and growth. Translate complex data into easy-to-understand collateral including infographics, white papers, and other handouts. Research and relay nationally established best practices in policy around housing and homelessness and compile relevant research findings in written reports. Work with local policy makers to educate the public about best practices through written materials. Synthesize data and compelling talking points in meaningful documents tailored to specific audiences. Understand the status of the housing and homelessness landscape in Tulsa and statewide, including gaps and opportunities at the policy and systems levels. Develop/provide public education, presentations, and outreach regarding housing and homelessness issues as needed. Facilitate communication between stakeholders, community leaders, and policymakers within specific policy projects as assigned. Currently working towards a Master's degree or higher in a field such as public policy or social work Civically minded Familiar with data collection and statistical analysis Interested in housing and homelessness services Familiar with Microsoft software Able to work independently to write educational materials to support legislative efforts or increase awareness around topics of homelessness Passionate about advocating for best practices in social services and affordable housing initiatives to increase equity and justice You'll be most successful if you have...
A drive and curiosity to understand public sector systems Several months (May - December 2024) to work on a months-long research project Experience writing white papers or one-pagers, compiling data, and related materials 1-2 years of experience working in public policy (education, internships, practicums, work experience or a combination therein) Knowledge of legislative practices at the federal, state and local levels Experience in affordable or supportive housing This position will be self-directed and mostly remote, with routine check-ins, aiming for an average of 35- 40 hours per week. Some in-person meetings and community events would require your presence, so you would need to be located within driving distance of our Tulsa, OK office.
This position would allow for flexible scheduling to work within your existing school schedule, supervision, or other obligations. This position provides monetary compensation, but this temporary role would not include medical benefits or other fringe benefits available to permanent employees.
