Job summary
The Histotechnician will be responsible for performing all technical duties related to the production of histo-pathological slides and grossing tissue specimens.Technical ResponsibilitiesPrepare slides for pathologist and external clients for interpretation.Perform routine and special microtomy procedures.Perform routine H&E stains, IHC, and special stains.Perform routine tissue embedding.Perform Quality control of histology stains.Perform grossing of tissue specimens (if credentialed by NOQ).Operate and maintain histology equipment not limited to tissue processors, and automated staining platform.Aid in troubleshoot and resolving inquiries or problems within the laboratory follow all technical standard operating procedures.Administrative ResponsibilitiesRecord keepingEnsures the Sign-out log is maintained daily and filed appropriatelyMaintains numeric data on lab test outputMakes sure all reagents and solutions are properly dated and labeledAnswers phone inquiries and take messagesInventory Control--Ensures a consistent supply of reagents and consumables is always on handGenerates incident reports when appropriateEnvironment/SafetyResponsible for the knowledge and practice of safety SOP's in the laboratoryComplete all required EHS trainingWear appropriate PPE as requiredComply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, LC EHS policies / procedures and the requirements of accrediting organizationsConduct work in a safe and environmentally responsible mannerPatient ConfidentialityD.O.H.N.Y.S.: Title 10: Rules and Regulations, effective Date: May 5, 1993. 63.[5]6 Confidentiality and disclosure. • Associates degree (or equivalent course of study) or higher in Histotechnician program• Associates degree (full course of study) or higher in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences• and• 1 of the following: 1 year of experience or training in histology within the past 5 years under the direction of board certified pathologist or Successful completion of a course of training of at least 9 months in a histotechnician program• Or• Bachelors or higher degree in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences with a combination of 30 hours in biology and chemistry• and• 1 of the following: 1 year of experience or training in histology within the past 5 years under the direction of board certified pathologist or Successful completion of a course of training of at least 9 months in a histotechnician program• HT/HTL (ASCP) certification preferred.• State Personnel licensure (when applicable)
