Healthcare Education Project Department Based in New York, NY The 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds (TEF) provide comprehensive training, education, and career pathways opportunities to unionized workers represented by 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East. TEF is part of a family of 1199SEIU Funds, which provide health, pension, and quality of life benefits. We are among the largest labor-management funds in the nation, covering 400,000 members and their families.
The Training and Employment Funds offer an array of services to frontline healthcare workers including the opportunity to advance in healthcare occupations through college degrees and other types of education. TEF also runs an Employment Center through which 1199SEIU members, and the general public can obtain jobs in healthcare, joint labor and management work designed to improve workplace cohesion and health outcomes, and job security programs for laid-off 1199SEIU members.
If you're ready for the brightest career future, join us in this excellent opportunity to showcase your talents. We are currently seeking an experienced Healthcare Advocate – Hudson Valley for our Healthcare Education Project (HEP) department.
Provide on-going advocacy and health education-based services to community organizations and community members. Responsible for developing meaningful long-term relationships with grassroots community leaders within Hudson Valley, while also serving as liaison between Union Leadership and members of the Hudson Valley affiliated partners. Candidates must be goal-oriented, and results driven, with demonstrable creative and innovative approaches to community organizing. Successful candidates will oversee the development and implementation of multiple neighborhood plans to establish progressive community-based coalitions organized to protect and defend the right of working families in New York State, with a focus on access to affordable, quality healthcare.
Responsibilities Develop and maintain relationships with key constituencies Work closely with staff, union members and leadership and maintain regular communications. Represent HEP at forums, meetings and conferences. Research and analyze Hudson Valley demographics, civic participation, local organizations; project and evaluate measurable goals for activities. Identify opportunities to deliver presentations to large groups on campaign objectives. Develop demographic segmentation strategies that align with communities within assigned territories. Assist with development of issues and community specific educational literature and assist in developing regional distribution outlets. Attend monthly community meetings, i.e. Community Boards, Joint Community Partnership Coalitions, Civics, Precinct Board, Clergy meetings, Elected Officials Breakfast meetings Generate useable material relevant to campaigns to support HEP promotional efforts such as quotes, photographs etc. Coordinate and execute campaign events, rallies, health fairs, seminars, press conferences, district lobby visits. Build and maintain non-partisan political relationships with local legislators, political staff, labor leaders, community leaders and clergy. Plan Logistics and strategize for events that require multi level planning example annual Washington DC lobby day. Prepare written reports and compile statistical data on campaign event performance Develop and implement tactics to support regional and national campaign strategies. Develop Hudson Valley communication plans that include print and digital medium. Available to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends as required Perform special projects and assignments as directed by management Qualifications HS Diploma or GED required; some college preferred Minimum two (2) years of experience with social justice, political or progressive campaigns required Must possess a valid driver's license Available to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends as required (late evenings meetings and weekends) Excellent written and verbal communication skills required Strong interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills Computer competency (Word, database) required Ability to oversee a program by diligent tracking of goals and progress Able to work independently, solve problems and manage time and priorities Commitment to social change a must Ability to develop meaningful and productive relationships with community leaders and organizations Able to work well with all religious, cultural, ethnic and social groups Successful execution in coalition building is a plus Foreign language skills helpful, but not required We offer a competitive salary, an excellent fully employer-paid comprehensive benefits package and talented professional colleagues.
