Silver Lions Farms is looking for a passionate, and dedicated Head Farmer to join our team in Ely, Nevada .
The Head Farmer is responsible for maintaining 2,454 wet acres at 2 locations. Our main North farm consists of 1,609 acres/12 pivots near Lages Junction, with an additional 845 acres/8 pivots at our South farm located 30 miles away off Hwy 93.

You will manage and supervise a team of 6 to 12 people, based on season, and assist in the day-to-day operation, management, and training of all staff.
This role is responsible for crop development and the removal of substandard plants to maintain quality standards and will ensure that plants are grown with optimal plant health and yields.
Core Duties & Responsibilities Field Preparation: Develops and refines Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure our fields are properly conditioned and nutrient treatments are applied correctly and train staff accordingly Planting: Ensure that seed and/or seedlings are ready for planting, correct preparations are determined and applied, and equipment is in the proper operational condition prior to the scheduled deployment Grows & Field Maintenance: Responsible for successful field grows & maintenance Develops and refines SOPs for the application of organic and non-organic macro and micronutrients and ensures they are followed through application Identify and resolve issues with plants/crops Harvest: Plans and directs all aspects of the harvest Inspects quality/yields of each harvest Equipment: Manage farm mechanic(s) to ensure all farm equipment is maintained on a daily, monthly, and quarterly basis Preventative Maintenance Services (PMS) Operator pre-check protocols (daily walk-arounds) Create Tool Security SOPs Responsible for stocking back up parts, ordering & maintaining appropriate inventory based on budget guidelines Management: Manages a core team of Farm Laborers, delegates responsibilities, and works with administration on team schedules Manage budgets in partnership with business operations Farm Planning: Works with the VP of Farm Operations to plan seasonal field preparation, planting, field maintenance, harvest, and develop the annual farm plan Maintains daily work orders and records in AgWorld for all farm-related activities Job Requirements Minimum of 8 years of hands on 1000+ acre pivot irrigation farming Expert knowledge of Hemp farming, plant cycles, field preparation, pivot maintenance, and labor management Assign tasks and train field labor on all farm duties and able to make quick adjustments when necessary 10+ years of large-scale farm management experience Best practices for soil conditioning, to include; pest management, organic fertilization, and irrigation for crops such as alfalfa, wheat, barley, and hemp Experienced with farm equipment including farm tractors, implements & vehicle maintenance Experience creating SOPs and training others on all aspects of farming, tool and equipment security, and equipment maintenance Passion for farming and continued education, practices current organic farming trends Ability to assess and communicate timelines, efficiency, and risk to crop season Budget planning with partnership of business management and regular budget tracking Basic understanding of MS Tools (MS Teams, Word, Excel etc.) Working some nights, weekends and holidays during peak season required for this position Skills & Core Competencies Proven track record of leading, managing, and inspiring a team Strong communication skills Deadline and schedule driven Strong communication skills, reporting all changes and needs to the management team as pertaining to overall farm success Physical Requirements Must be able to climb, squat, bend, twist, stand for at least 8-10 hours per day and lift up to 50 pounds Must be able and willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions Silver Lion Farms is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
