The Greater Impact Legal Fellowship Position Summary:
This position offers a rare and exciting opportunity to gain real-world experience in legal compliance, contract law, employment law and privacy law within a publicly traded, global, government services corporation. The selected fellow will rotate in all four areas of the legal department to gain knowledge of general business principles, corporate organizational structure, and government procurements. You will have the opportunity to learn, grow and collaborate among various project teams, consultants, vendors, and senior management. The experience will include challenging work assignments, gaining insights on various improvement initiatives and building a professional network in a career field with great potential for advancement. The ideal fellow will be interested in legal compliance, employment law, privacy law, or contract law; have an ability to consider strategic solutions to address business and programmatic risks; as well as identifying and analyzing law sources such as statutes, judicial decisions, legal articles, and codes to prepare legal documents such as briefs, memoranda, and letters. Guidance and training will be provided by the Manager.
Salary range is competitive and commensurate with education and experience. Fellows are eligible for full benefits with variable bonus program participation. All computer equipment and access to digital systems will be provided. Program Details:
The fellowship program year starts in early August 2024 through end of July 2025 with two Fellows being named during that year. This Fellowship requires a commitment of 40 full-time hours per week for the one year duration. Quarterly rotations are conducted among the four departments mentioned above. The role is 100% remote within the US, with majority of the team located in the Eastern time zone, but applicants from all zones will be considered. Fellowship may be re-awarded for up to one additional year, depending upon manager decision. Possibility to obtain FT position upon satisfactory completion of rotational duties in all assigned areas, upon conclusion of the Fellowship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze: Requests for Proposals (RFPs), SOWs and other proposed contract actions; proposals/solicitations, contracts, sub contracts, licensing agreements, Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) and vendor agreements.
- Draft and prepare: briefs and letters such as responses to public records requests, consulting services contract agreements, teaming agreements, nondisclosure agreements, subcontracts, and staffing agreements; memoranda to General Counsel; Request for Information (RFI) to firms; Notices, compliance-related policies and position statements including public facing privacy statements under the supervision of senior team members.
- Identify and determine: privacy risks and mitigations; applicable law resources such as statues, judicial decisions, legal articles and codes; required federal/state/global privacy controls; potential process improvements including training recommendations.
- Investigate and document: Risk resulting from assigned privacy incidents, including applying legal analysis to make breach determination; incident findings; root causes and recommended sanctions; Personnel file or Ethics Complaints, Leaves of Absence durations and any work history evidence including Progressive Discipline.
- Maintain, develop and monitor policies related to vendor management, procurement and screening of suppliers and subcontractors; high-risk processes such as conflicts of interest disclosures, gifts and hospitality pre-approvals and auditing and crisis responses.
- Assist with and participate in management of legal hold process, program update reporting to senior leadership and Board of Directors; hotline investigations; collecting relevant documentation; remediations for corrective action; and enhanced third-party risk management program.
- Coordinate and conduct: investigation SOPs including calls with internal employees, subjects and witnesses to assess basis of complainant allegations.

- Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study and 3+ years of relevant professional experience required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Intake of any new charges of discrimination filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission;
• Coordinate with HR, Maximus Accommodations and Leave Team, Ethics as well as Operations to gather all relevant and necessary documents - including but not limited to conduct documents;
• Conduct call(s) with internal Supervisors and Managers to assess the basis of the Complainant's allegations;
• Draft a position statement responding to the allegations in the Charge of Discrimination;
• Articulate the legal basis on which to defend management's actions;
• File the position statement / response with the proper agency.

• Must have taken the Bar and either passed or awaiting confirmation of passing status.
• Must be a US Citizen or documented US Resident.
• Ability to rotate between Global Ethics & Compliance, Privacy, Contracts and Employment Law and Labor Relations Departments.
• Working knowledge of privacy laws and regulations (e.g., HIPAA, Privacy Act, GLBA, FCRA, GDPR, state consumer privacy rights laws and state breach notification laws)
• Ability to display disciplined strategic thinking, analytical presentation, and critical thinking skills.
• Must have a positive attitude, integrity, initiative and maintain professionalism.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.

• Experience interfacing with a wide variety of key stakeholders; a strong collaborator and team oriented.
• Competence in the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, etc.) plus database management and reporting software knowledge or the ability to learn new software, when needed.

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards.
