Job Description Applies their knowledge of FGIS grain grading standards to provide accurate grading of products in a fast pace environment Collects sample as required by facility sampling plans. Participates in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Laboratory Processes Organize samples according to sample retention guidelines, and tracks samples scheduled for internal and external testing when necessary. Performs routine laboratory test of production and environmental samples to ensure the quality of final product and environmental discharge levels.  Assists the QA Manager with the inventory and ordering of laboratory supplies to ensure efficient laboratory operations Accepts/carries out/completes other duties as assigned by the Quality Manger Safety/Auditing/Program Management Functions Involved with the development, implementation and revisions of the plant quality program Contributes to the development and implementation of facility quality audits Participates in the investigation of any product quality issues Participates in the facility Food/Feed Safety programs and assessments Qualifications Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses Basic qualifications :  High School Diploma / GED  Valid Driver's License  Must be able to obtain TWIC card Experience  One year of experience as a Grader or equivalent external experience with above average safety and work record  Experience within a related high volume grain handling facility  Training in or experience with continuous improvement programs Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)  Strong analytical and problem solving skills  Ability to learn and follow testing procedures and the ability to question test methods, if the results are out of line.  Ability to track through the production process and answer basic questions about purpose and troubleshooting.  Strong mathematical skills.  Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy and prioritize workload.  Basic knowledge and experience using spreadsheet and word-processing software (e.g., Excel and MS Word) Ability to communicate in a professional manner both written and verbal Excellent attention to detail  Broad knowledge of laboratory processes, procedures and equipment  Broad knowledge of quality assurance testing methods  Broad knowledge of relevant USDA handbooks including but not limited to Books II, III, Mechanical Sampling Handbook and Weighing Handbook Additional Information Equipment Used  Standard laboratory equipment and machinery  Typical office equipment: PC, telephone  Personal protective equipment (PPEs) will be worn in compliance with Company standards and government regulations as required. Working Conditions  Laboratory work is in a typical climate-controlled laboratory environment.  Continuous 24/7 plant operation; this position works 12 hours/day. May include shift work and call-in availability on days off or other atypical hours/schedules  Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects or to respond to emergencies.  Periodic visits to industrial operations areas are necessary with exposure to variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions  Regular exposure to chemicals, gases, vapors, dust, odors and flammable materials.  Exposure to areas with wet floors and loud noise.
