The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF)  is the state of Florida's social services agency. The agency oversees services for child safety, fostering, adoption, domestic violence, adult protective services, refugees, homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, childcare providers, human trafficking and public assistance. The agency's mission is to work in partnership with local communities to protect the vulnerable, promote strong and economically self-sufficient families, and advance personal and family recovery and resiliency.
Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

THIS IS NOT A TELEWORK POSITION.  CANDIDATE WILL BE REQUIRED TO WORK IN THE TALLAHASSEE OFFICE. This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve as a Clinical Evaluator (Psychologist) within the Office of Recovery unit in the office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health. T his position will collaborate with each section within the program office and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented.    
Specific Duties and Responsibilities include: Develop evaluation plans and oversee evaluation projects to address Florida's substance abuse issues and needs. Collaborate with management and staff to understand their needs. Analyze data to identify problem areas. Develop plans to implement targeted solutions. Keep abreast of changes in the industry to best serve the people of Florida. Engage in brainstorm strategies for growth, positive change, and continuous improvement. Consult with medical personnel, both Departmental employees and contract partners, in developing a program to treat various addiction disorders and thereby ensuring an acceptable level of patient health, wellbeing and recovery. Interact with a variety of professional, governmental, and regulatory contacts both as a representative of the SAMH and as a member of professional organizations. Represent the Department in meetings and conferences as clinical liaison, both inside and outside the Department, and building strategic alliances outside of the organization to foster an environment of innovative service delivery. Provide status updates to SAMH leadership. Frequent contact will be made with the SAMH Leadership to provide direction and any updates to changes. Conduct special projects, as assigned. Perform other related duties and is on-call during office closures, evenings, and weekends, as needed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position: Knowledge of community mental health and substance use programs, services, and practices as well as practical experience in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of medical and substance related illnesses in the context of psychiatric illnesses. Knowledge of the theories and principles of clinical psychology. Knowledge of accepted therapy techniques. Knowledge of psychological testing principles and practices. Knowledge of research designs and methodologies. Ability to administer and interpret psychological tests. Ability to interview patients to obtain information. Ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients. Ability to conduct group and individual therapy sessions. Ability to develop experimental designs for research studies. Ability to analyze and interpret psychological data. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Minimum Qualifications: A doctorate from an accredited college or university in psychology and must include one year of supervised internship experience in professional psychology. Preference will be given to applicants who have: Board certified/board eligible in Addiction Medicine through ABAM/ASAM. Candidates who specialize in addiction medication.
