We are seeking a Product Counsel to join our growing Legal and Compliance Product and Commercial team to meet the expanding needs of our company and our customers.  In this newly created role, you will be advising and working collaboratively with our product, engineering, business, and marketing teams to support our global product experiences.We are passionate about using innovative technology and excellent service to elevate the experience of small business owners and their employees. Each team member is a true owner and makes a tremendous impact every day.  If you shine in a fast-paced environment and thrive on the success of a job well done, let's chat! This role can be based in the San Francisco, Denver, or New York City metro areas.Here's what you'll do day-to-day:Navigate complex regulatory frameworks to design and mature Gusto's global products. Look around corners, creatively solve problems, and help define business strategy as Gusto expands its product functionality to meet the needs of both global small businesses and US businesses that have hired international employees and/or contractors.Counsel the product, engineering, design, and business teams and help them navigate a range of issues related to our products and/or partnerships, including global employment and wage & hour experiences, international payments, currency conversion, data privacy, and tax.Contribute to the development of scalable processes to manage legal risk and accelerate product expansion.Here's what we're looking for:JD degree and a member of a State bar/ active license to practice law.5+ years of combined legal experience, with experience working in an in-house legal department at a global technology company.Experience launching and scaling highly regulated yet innovative, global products.Ability to spot and resolve a variety of legal issues across multiple jurisdictions within the U.S. and abroad.Experience creatively solving problems, taking into account legal risk and business needs.Attention to detail and the ability to follow through in a fast-paced environment.A team player mindset (no job is too big or too small).A collaborative approach and demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, cross-functionally, and independently.Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $156,000 - $194,000/year in Denver and $190,000 - $236,000/year in San Francisco and New York.
