Job Title: Certified Gifted Teacher
Reports To: Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
This employee is responsible for organizing, implementing, and supporting modified instructional strategies to meet the needs of gifted students in gifted and/or basic education classes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution.
Mississippi teaching certificate in appropriate area (207 endorsement).
Experience is preferred, but not necessary for hiring.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Designs or selects appropriate instructional modifications for gifted students and coordinating these activities with other teachers as appropriate.
Continues professional growth through education meetings, visiting related facilities, reading professional literature, and exchanging ideas among the district staff.
Coordinates with other teachers in planning and developing the program.
To have a mastery level of their curriculum outcomes and be able to articulate these to students, parents, and patrons.
Contributes to the continuing development of improved curriculum to achieve the outcomes of the school district.
Utilizes accepted principles of learning and human growth in motivating students and in directing learning activities.
Provides for appropriate student participation in developing and achieving classroom mastery level concepts.
To have the ability to disaggregate test data and determine areas to provide instruction for each student.
Provides continuous monitoring and recording of student mastery level concepts aligned with curriculum.
Implements student portfolios and help students select items to be included in their portfolios.
Maintains a classroom climate conducive to learning.
Practices, and help students acquire, the values, attitudes, and skills necessary to become resourceful and creative self-sufficient citizens.
Plans learning activities that recognize the different needs, abilities, and skills necessary for effective participation in our diverse society.
Assists students with understanding and the application of classroom learning to everyday situations and for life-long learning.
Utilizes student support services to achieve student success to the maximum of their abilities.
Reports student progress to parents in an accurate and professional manner and assist student in learning to evaluate their own progress.
Be resourceful in utilizing community resources when it enhances learning.
Assists students in developing obtainable goals to build positive self-concepts.
Participates in the planning and supervision of student activities.
Demonstrates effective use and proper care of materials and supplies.
Demonstrates and model continuous professional growth and to apply the learning to classroom activities.
Develops a cooperative, energetic, flexible, and creative working relationship with students, colleagues, and administration.
Implements and carry out all applicable policies, rules and regulations, and decisions of the Board of Education and the administration.
Prepares and maintains records and reports as required by law and by the Board of Education and the administration.
Transcends lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program.
Identifies student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
