The Governor's Office of Planning and Research seeks to fill a Limited Term 12 months, may be extended up to 24 months Research Data Specialist I position within the Planning and Climate Policy Branch. Under supervision of the Climate Services Program Manager (Research Data Supervisor II) the Geospatial and Climate Resilience Data Analyst, will support the technical development of ICARP's Vulnerable Communities Platform (VCP) and the broader data analysis, data management, and research development strategy for the SPPD climate services team. The position will help lead the technical development of the VCP, focused on supporting research into best available data for use in the platform, and vetting, evaluation, and management of data sources, with the goal of producing an open, accessible, and community grounded platform that holistically identifies the communities in California that are most vulnerable to climate change. Job duties include identification of appropriate data sets, development of data management protocols and methods, technical development of the VCP and other data analysis and visualization tools, and ongoing database development and data management for the SPPD climate services team and to support OPR research activities and program development. This position is a member of the OPR Climate Team, which works to integrate climate change into planning and investment decisions through the development of decision-support tools, actionable climate science, guidance, technical assistance, and grant programs.

This position is eligible for telework in accordance with the OPR Telework Policy.

Working Conditions
The positions at OPR may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code Section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the OPR Telework Policy and/or future program need.

All OPR employees must reside in California upon appointment.

OPR is located in Sacramento, directly across from the State Capitol.
Requires being in a stationary position, consistent with office work, for extended periods.
Standard office environment (artificial lighting, controlled temperature, etc.).
Daily use of personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.
Occasional overnight travel up to 15% may be required.

• Strong scientific understanding of climate change.
• Master's degree focused on geographic information systems and data.
