Department Description POSITION SUMMARY :
The Food Services Transporter will operate a box truck/approved vehicle safely in transporting food products and supplies to and from schools/centers. Employees in this class are responsible for following an assigned route and schedule in the safe operation of a box truck/approved vehicle. General supervision and training is received from Food Services Manager and /or Food Services Supervisor. Employees in this class are prohibited from operating vehicles that require possession of a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
Brief Description
This is an ACE/AFSCME, Local 2250 Position - Pay Table 400 - Grade 6 Hourly Range : $16.02 - $30.52 CLOSING DATE : April 14, 2024
Detailed Description DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Operates a vehicle over an assigned route in transporting food products and supplies to and from schools/centers; Inspects vehicle and checks gas, oil, water and all lights, brakes, and safety equipment before driving; maintains cleanliness of vehicle (both inside and out); Serves as a Food Services Assistant as needed when not transporting food products and supplies; Meets the annual continuing education/training requirements for USDA professional standards for school nutrition employees; Prepares reports of accidents and incidents, which occur; Attends food and nutrition trainings and other meetings as necessary; Prepares manifest reports as requested; Keeps an up-to-date route sheet in the vehicle at all times; Keeps required handbooks in the vehicle at all times; and Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements QUALIFICATIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Good knowledge of driving safety and courtesy; Good knowledge of the operation of automobiles and passenger vans; Good knowledge of the local streets and road system; Good knowledge of state regulations and laws pertaining to the operation of vehicles; Good knowledge of motor vehicle laws and regulations of the State Board of Education; Knowledge and understanding of the relationship between sanitary food handling techniques and their potential impact on food product safety; Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; and Ability to communicate effectively with Food and Nutrition Services department staff, school administrators, community members, students, and appropriate PGCPS staff. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of a standard high school diploma or GED required. Must have at least three (3) years of driving experience.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator's License ( non-CDL accepted ) with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to perform extensive walking, stooping, pushing, carrying, climbing, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs. independently, and have the ability to exert force required to twist/turn equipment/tools required to perform assigned tasks.The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
