Job Summary: Join the exciting world of emergency veterinary medicine! This position will assist Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVTs) who are engaged in the care of patients in the ER and Critical Care Unit (CCU) of UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). The work is performed under close supervision of CVTs and clinicians.

Responsibilities: Provides assistance during veterinary examinations and procedures, performs daily animal care duties, and maintains facility and inventory to ensure attainment of organization goals. 20% Assists with and executes the preparation, completion, and documentation of basic technical animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity 15% Cleans and maintains organization of animal holding spaces, work areas and equipment 10% Inventories and organizes supplies 10% Maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing 10% Assists with routine laboratory tests and specimen collection according to established medical orders and care plans 10% Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities 10% Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders providing information and answering questions 15% Provide support to the ECC technical staff and clinicians to ensure optimal patient care Tasks: Restrains varied domestic, exotic and wildlife species Ensures required supplies needed for medication administration are on hand; assists in the preparation of oral, topical and injectable medications as directed Assists with performing routine medical nursing skills as directed Performs patient preps as directed/requested for pre-surgical and diagnostic procedures Frequently observes animals under care, records and reports to CVT/clinician any animals displaying abnormal or concerning behavior Initiates and monitors prescribed food (special diets) and water supplies to patients; assures patient cleanliness and comfort Assist the service with answering phones and client communications, as needed Assists with patient restraint and positioning for radiographs Monitors use of supplies and restocks as necessary Cleans/disinfects area, equipment, instruments, and carts after use in procedures and when necessary Assists in routine recordkeeping of medical records Participate in on-call shifts as required by the unit Other tasks as required and assigned by the unit Contribute positively to the unit and hospital culture Institutional Statement on Diversity: Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison. Qualifications: Required Qualifications:
- Previous working experience in a veterinary clinic or hospital
- Ability to work full-time, without schedule restrictions
- Basic animal handling skills, preferably experience with multiple species
- Good client-relation communication skills
- Ability to follow written and verbal rules and instructions accurately
- Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks

Work Schedule: Flexible hours depending on the needs of the department. May include day or night shifts and may include a limited number of on-call hours. Work schedule is made 2 weeks in advance.
Will include holiday and weekend shifts
Night and Weekend differential applicable on top of the base pay
Potential for on-call hours as required by the hospital.
Work Type: Full or Part Time: 50% - 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary: Minimum $17.00 HOURLY

Sign-on Bonus of 3-5% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid over the first year of employment!
