Details of the offer

This position is for a project biologist to conduct daily operations on Pacific lamprey out of The Dalles Field Office. Study locations include the Deschutes River, Hood River, John Day River, and Fifteenmile Creek in the mid-Columbia River Basin . Work involves overseeing field technicians, leading field research studies for escapement estimates, harvest estimates , and larval distribution. Half-duplex PIT tags are used to document movement patterns. Experience with inserting PIT tags and building and operating antenna arrays is desired but not required. The successful candidate must be able to assist in writing an annual report, which requires the ability to manage and analyze data, prepare graphs and tables , present and interpret data clearly in standard scientific report format. 

Requirements Masters of Science in Fisheries Science or a closely related field and three years job-related experience or Bachelor of Science or a closely related field and five years of job-related experience. Project management and supervisory experience necessary. Extensive knowledge of: Fishery management principles. Data analysis, statistics and population dynamics. Project management methods and techniques. Budget preparation and management. Federal permitting requirements. Skill with: Word processing, spreadsheets, statistical and database software. operation of sampling equipment, boats and other equipment (off highway vehicles, skid steer, trailer etc). Designing, organizing, implementing and prioritizing projects. Ability to: Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Synthesize large datasets into reports. Work in inclement conditions. Supervise staff, including hiring,

.training and discipline.
