Responsibilities
• Maintaining confidentiality of work• Inspecting structures for compliance with fire codes• Coordinating inspections and discussing findings with other agencies• Enforcing fire and related codes by informing responsible parties of violations• Reviewing blueprints for fire safety• Conducting public education and fire prevention programs• Issuing correction orders and re-inspecting for compliance• Preparing reports and records• Prioritizing work and coordinating activities• Being subject to emergency callback
Requirements
• High school diploma or GED• At least 5 years of fire or codes related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience• Certifications in NFPA 1031 Plans Examiner I and Plans Examiner II• Building Plans Examiner certifications according to West Virginia Code• Knowledge of fire prevention, code enforcement, building codes, safety/security, customer service, interpersonal relationships, critical thinking, judgment/decision making, communication, and geography• Physical abilities including standing, walking, climbing, lifting, and body senses• Language skills in reading, speaking, and writing English• Reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities
