Department Summary
The Division of Global Engagement (DGE) works to make the University of Oregon a more global university. In 21st-century higher education, international engagement is not an optional extra: as noted in UO's Academic Plan, it is a core mission, essential to a thriving, socially salient, intellectually robust, academic community. It is part of the normal functioning of every school, college, department, and center. DGE works to support and integrate the wide range of international engagements, global-scale projects, and transnational partnerships launched and maintained in our many academic units. Units within DGE consist of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), Global Education Oregon (GEO), and Global Studies Institute (GSI).
GEO (Global Education Oregon) is the UO study abroad office and a provider of international programs open to partner universities. At Global Education Oregon we create pathways to international, experiential learning for students, faculty, and university partners. Founded on the belief that international engagement is integral to developing global citizens, we:
• Prepare students for a 21st-century workforce, creating exceptional academic and professional development opportunities abroad;
• Connect faculty to cross-cultural perspectives that enhance their teaching and research; and
• Provide institutional partners with a personalized, progressive approach to international programming and collaboration.
Global Education Oregon (GEO) is a proud partner of Generation Study Abroad.
Position Summary
This position works closely with the Division of Global Engagement (DGE) leadership in the development, coordination, and execution of new and existing cross-unit, revenue-generating programs in furtherance of UO's global engagement mission.
The GEO Finance and Operations Manager (FOM) reports to the Assistant Vice Provost and Director of GEO study abroad and serves as the principal accounting officer for GEO study abroad.
In close coordination with other members of DGE and GEO leadership and the DGE finance team, the FOM oversees all aspects of GEO's financial operations. This includes, but is not limited to oversight of the design and approval of individual GEO program budgets; management of the quarterly and annual budgets for the 4 GEO centers in Europe; monitoring enrollment trends as needed to prepare revenue projections for DGE and UO leadership; and monitoring and evaluating GEO's financial operations to ensure GEO study abroad operations are efficient and transparent.
This position works closely with the entire GEO leadership team to ensure the operating systems we use to track data and manage our nearly 100 for-credit study abroad programs (e.g. Studio Abroad, Smartsheet, etc.) remain efficient, flexible, and accessible for the entire GEO team. This includes developing, testing, and implementing processes and procedures that support the intersection of our operating systems with all members of our team and campus stakeholders across campus.
This position also serves as a member of the GEO leadership team by providing research, decision-making advice, and other support to DGE leaders, as needed, that affect financial and operational decisions that impact GEO, DGE, and the university at large. As a member of the leadership team, the FOM will receive the cross-training necessary to support and provide back-up to other mission-critical functions managed by other members of GEO's leadership team: The Executive Director, the two Assist. Directors for Global Programming, the Assistant Director for Student Success and Analytics, and the Global Risk Manager.
