The Field-Surveyor technician is located in Vancouver, WA and typically reports directly to the Project Manager. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
In the great outdoors, gather detailed electric utility line information and other utility pole attached information All information will be electronically gathered by utilizing a "state of the art" recording instrument Beginning steps include understanding which geographical area is being surveyed and utilizing GPS coordinates to locate utility poles By following a standardized collection protocol, information will be entered into the recording instrument Understand and follow the practices and procedures pertaining to technical matters in one or more of the following areas: a) Electrical Engineering
b) Electrical Distribution Design
c) Surveying
d) GIS and Mapping
e) Overhead and underground electrical line distribution
f) NESC codes, requirements and regulations
g) Joint attachment audits and pole loading software
Perform tasks such as digitizing, copying and scanning of drawings, prints and maps Follow quality practice and procedures by self-checking all work product Follow safety procedures Perform other duties as assigned Maintain the recording instrument to ensure accurate and reliable data collection Process and finalize survey maps that have been used in the field survey SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Minimum (1) year experience, preferably in an utility environment or transferable skills to adapt to an utility environment Demonstrated proficiency in field surveying procedures Analytical competence to interact with a variety of individuals including engineers, clients and experienced Distribution System Designers Knowledge of pole loading software a BIG PLUS but not required Communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with all levels in the organization and with outside clients Computer skills are also needed Must be a self-starter able to work with others and to handle multiple tasks Black & McDonald welcomes and encourages applications from persons with disabilities.
