Job Summary: The Wisconsin Union is looking for an experienced maintenance technician to join our facilities team. This position will work with other technicians, mechanics, and trades staff to keep our buildings and grounds beautiful and functioning perfectly. The successful person in this position will be able to work well as part of a team but will also have the experience necessary to independently problem solve mechanical and maintenance issues. Responsibilities: Inspects, maintains, and repairs specialized equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. Assists with construction, design and operational maintenance as needed. 20% Utilizes specialized equipment to repair and maintain complex machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation 20% Performs routine and non-routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness 20% Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures 20% Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries independently to appropriate entities 20% Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed Tasks: Assist in carpentry, plumbing and electrical Completing daily maintenance requests (clearing clogged sinks and shower drains, unclogging toilets, replacing burnt out light bulbs, replacing garbage disposals, fixing door locks and closers) Appliance repair (flat grills, fridges, microwaves, dishwashers, stoves, washers, dryers) Performing repairs/replacement on flooring and ceiling tiles Drywall repair Performing preventative maintenance on building mechanicals Performing capital upgrades at our different properties Snow removal on occasion Design and install annual flower beds Perform basic grounds maintenance such as mowing grass, emptying bins, managing weed control, and leaf raking Plant and nurture new flowers and other various plants Work with hand tools and basic light machinery Be in the emergency on-call rotation once every 10 weeks Institutional Statement on Diversity: Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison. Qualifications: Required:
*Experience working in a building maintenance, construction, mechanical repair or similar setting
*Driver's license- valid and meets UW Risk Management Standards
*Excellent customer service and communication skills
*Strong attention to detail
*Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs

License/Certification: Required

Work Schedule: Core hours are Monday thru Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm with the occasional Saturday as needed. Special event weekends like Badger Bash, Homecoming, Labor Day and Commencement are part of the schedule. Once every 10 weeks this position will be in the emergency on-call rotation. Although this is the expected schedule it could vary based on business needs.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary: Minimum $23.00 HOURLY

Additional Information: The Wisconsin Union operates from several buildings on the UW-Madison campus including Memorial Union, Union South, Fluno Center, Pyle Center, University Club, Red Gym, and the Student Activity Center. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by over thirty food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $60 million dollars.
