Advantage Steel & Construction Fabrication Shop is an AISC certified Steel fabricator that specializes in the complex bridge rehabilitation and structural fabrication. The Fabrication Shop Superintendent is a leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Advantage Steel & Construction fabrication shop operations. This position requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives to ensure the shop operates safely and efficiently while executing to the expected quality standards.
Key Responsibilities Lead and direct the daily operations of the fabrication shop, including scheduling, production planning, resource allocation and supporting quality control. Develop and implement operational procedures to balance shop activities, maximize production efficiency, and minimize indirect costs. Ensure compliance with company safety regulations and policies, conducting regular safety inspections and promoting a culture of safety among shop personnel. Maintain compliance of welder qualifications in accordance with our Quality Management Program Collaborate with Project Management & Quality Control to review project requirements, provide input on fabrication methods, and ensure effective communication throughout the fabrication process. Manage and update inventories of incoming materials, finished goods, supplies and consumables. Coordinate shipping and receiving activities with Project Management. Oversee the maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery, scheduling preventive maintenance activities to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability. Develop and implement training programs for shop personnel to enhance skills, improve shop performance and promote career development opportunities. Track and report key performance indicators, such as schedule attainment, quality metrics, and operational efficiency to identify areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary. Foster a positive work environment, promoting teamwork, collaboration, and employee engagement. Serve as the liaison between shop personnel, management, and other intercompany and affiliate departments. Qualifications 10 years equivalence in fabrication experience or Bachelor's degree in engineering (or a related field. Previous experience in heavy fabrication or manufacturing environment, with 5 years in a supervisory or operational role. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team. In-depth knowledge of fabrication processes, equipment, materials, and industry practices (AWS D1.1; D1.5). Demonstrated ability to analyze problems, develop solutions, and implement process improvements. Excellent organizational and time management abilities, showing the ability to prioritize competing demands. Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies including Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and other Quality Control Measures. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and MRP software applications. Knowledge in Viewpoint & Tekla PowerFab a plus SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION This is a Safety Sensitive Position requiring work on project sites, including federal projects. This position may require working at heights, in confined spaces, around heavy equipment, around high voltage, and under constantly changing circumstances. This position will be subject to more stringent drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a federal contractor.
