Position Title:

Executive Director of Equity and Inclusion

This is a Continuing Position.

Essential Functions:
Participates as a member of the district Leadership Team to increase the leadership capacity of principals, directors, and other administrators.
Attends Cabinet and School Board meetings.
Lead the development of a vision and overall direction for a district-wide Equity action plan that champions the importance and value of a diverse and inclusive environment.
Engage district leadership, faculty, staff and students to build a welcoming and inclusive culture in Evergreen Public Schools.
Ensure districtwide alignment with equitable practices.
Review and assess district policies, practices, and decisions for impact on equity, and increase transparency on how district decisions and policies impact equity.
Develops and implements district-wide training to promote cultural understanding and competency and a climate of equity and inclusion, including initiatives on culturally responsive teaching, pedagogy, and competency, implicit bias, and other topics designed to increase awareness and support of equity and inclusion values.
Develop and implement professional development in collaboration with Teaching and Learning Department that builds the mindsets and capacity of district staff to increase equitable outcomes for all students.
Present information at board meetings using data to drive critical conversations and continuous improvement among peer and non-peer colleague groups.
Develop and monitor programs and/or strategies to address student opportunity and achievement gaps including district assessment data and other academic/non-academic indicators.
Maintain a positive relationship with students, staff, parents, and community by modeling respect, cooperation, and professionalism with others, recognizing the personal achievements and professional contributions of others and demonstrating knowledge of a sensitivity toward individuals and groups from all racial, ethnic/cultural, national socio-economic backgrounds.
Establish key performance indicators and continuously review specific equity data and trends.
Coordinate internal and external resources/funds and external partners for equity work.
Coordinate and participate in city and/or regional efforts and learning opportunities to address Equity and Inclusion.
Articulates the district vision for education based on a professional commitment to improving learning and achievement for all students.
Leads for inclusive programming for students qualified for special education services and those learning English as a second language.
Models instructional leadership for principals.
Establishes a caring professional relationship and a climate of mutual trust and respect for staff, community and students.
Functions as an effective team member with co-workers and the community to build productive, collaborative relationships, to engage others in collaborative practices and to achieve program goals and objectives.
Continues to increase professional knowledge, skills and competencies in job-related areas; incorporates and demonstrates new knowledge and skills on the job.
Attends and participates in district staff meetings, such as Operations, P-12, etc.
Maintains confidentiality of program, staff and client information.
Facilitates professional development for all building administrators.
Supports the District Improvement Plan.
Develops cultural competence and a commitment to equity in outcomes and opportunities for adults and students.
Leads for equity towards college and career readiness.
Nurtures a school environment that celebrates, respects, and values diversity where teaching and learning are made relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures.
Publicly draws attention to all equity gaps that exist for various groups of students, supports leaders with developing plans to address gap.
Initiates activities and discussions that lead to increased cultural competence of staff, informing and expanding teaching practices within classrooms.
Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Education.
Certification: Valid Washington Administrative Credential.
Minimum of 5 years building administrative experience.
Successfully complete Washington State Patrol background check. Employee is responsible for cost of background check.
Training in Professional Learning Communities and Workshop approach to instruction.
Demonstrated ability to provide strong and effective leadership that ensures high standards and academic success and excellence for all students.
Ability to meaningfully engage a wide variety of stakeholders in challenging dialogue and critical self-reflection around racial identity, implicit bias, systemic racism, structural inequities, etc.
Ability to respond to and engage with a diverse multi-cultural and multi-racial community, and to work side by side and foster strong, positive relationships with parents, staff, students and the public.
Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of school reform and related issues.
Experience in leading curriculum development, alignment and assessment in relation to education reform.
Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching strategies and demonstrated experiences in effective instruction.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate collaborative project teams and to promote consensus with groups having diverse perspectives and interests.
Demonstrated ability to supervise large groups.
Demonstrated leadership qualities including the ability to be innovative and the ability to maintain positive and trusting relationships with staff, parents, community and employee groups.
Demonstrated skill in interpersonal relations and problem solving.
Demonstrated experience and skill in personnel selection.
Commitment to work as an effective member of the district leadership team.
Demonstrated ability to create teams that are high functioning.
Demonstrated ability to establish relationships with children and families from varying cultural educational and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Commitment of five years in this position preferred.
Knowledge of the Common Core State Standards.
Experience in developing and facilitating engaging professional development for staff and a commitment to equity while building a diverse and inclusive school community.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Related to Cultural Competence and Equity:
Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior, and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others.
Nurtures a positive school environment that celebrates, respects and values diversity, where teaching and learning are made relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures.

Ability to recognize each person as a unique individual even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage.
The ability and desire to establish positive relationships with persons regardless of race, gender, physical limitation, sexual orientation or religious belief, with an active commitment to equal opportunity for all persons.
Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships and interact successfully with diverse instructional support services and administrative staff, including perceiving the needs and concerns of others; assisting others in resolving conflicts; motivating others; and designing programs to assist others in meeting organizational goals.
